Jenney's Second Year Latin Grades 8-12 Text 1990C / Edition 4 available in Hardcover
Praised by teachers for many years, this format is now easier to manage. Passages are carefully controlled to use only vocabulary and syntax already taught and tested. Reading-skills instruction and translation help prepare students for second-year Latin. Twenty lessons formerly in Level I are now at the beginning of Level II, thereby providing better overall pacing.

This, along with the Third Year Latin book, was what I used in my high school Latin III class rather sporadically. We never had to really translate anything from this (THANK GOODNESS! o.o), but we went over participles and gerunds with this book and its supplemental workbook. A *wee* less intimidating than the First Year book (there's less stuff to go over), but unless you've memorized EVERY SINGLE FACET of the previous book, you should *definitely* get that book *first*. Since this book is an intermediate-level textbook, you definitely should go over the basics of Latin first, since this book assumes that you know everything from the beginning. It never reviews over what you previously learned from the first book -- it has Appendices in the back for THAT, which are just charts and listings of the declensions and conjugations there are of various types of words. It has nice passages from classic Latin literature, too. Definitely for lovers of language. :)
Great exercies.... excellent charts and notes.... cure for insomnia - not. Never learned 7th Declension faster! It makes pronouns a breeze!
