Reviewed by Karen Pirnot for Readers' Favorite In "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" Susan Winget has put together a marvelous collection of songs, poetry, philosophical sayings and Bible verses to delight readers during the holiday season. It is the kind of book that just begs to be given to a family member or a best friend. The author includes a plethora of wisdom from such minds as Henry Wadsworth Longellow who writes, "Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think," and William Wordsworth who writes, "The best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love." Christmas carols written by John Hughes, James Pierpoint and Isaac Watts are so beautifully illustrated that it will take your breath away. For those looking for the religious component of Christmas Day itself, Bible verses are scattered throughout the book and they too are beautifully illustrated. The messages put forth do not preach at the reader; rather they offer peace, love and a gentle welcome to the season. The book reminds people to be kind and gentle to one another. It suggests that the holidays is a season for forgiving minor personal violations. The messages suggest a general pleasantry, a time when people open up their hearts to the true promise of humankind. And finally, there is the overall message that the holiday season is a time when the world should be in harmony and at peace.
