Overview

Here are more poems bursting to be listened to, chanted, laughed over, and remembered.

It would be hard to find a school-age kid who has not read or heard a Prelutsky poem and who does not want to hear another. He plays with the language and encourages listeners to revel in the game. Puns, jokes, wordplay and shape play, wit, silliness, slapstick, and joy abound. Some of the poems are about people, some are about animals. And some are about things that never were (and that one hopes never will be). Be warned: Listen to a poem once and you will love it. Listen to it several times and it will be part of you forever.

It's Raining Pigs and Noodles

It's raining pigs and noodles,
it's pouring frogs and hats,
chrysanthemums and poodles,
bananas, brooms, and cats.
Assorted prunes and parrots
are dropping from the sky,
here comes a bunch of carrots,
some hippopotami.

It's raining pens and pickles,
and eggs and silverware.
A flood of figs and nickels
is falling through the air.
I see a swan, a sweater,
a clock, a model train--
like this so much better
than when it's raining rain.

My name is Alexandra and I am 9 years old. I read all of the poems in this book. My favorite poem was "I'm a Noted Liar". It is confusing and funny at the same time. My least favorite poem was "Burp". Who, besides a boy, likes to talk about burps? Jack Prelutsky is a funny writer!

I've been reading this to my grandchildren. We have so much fun with the purely nonsensical silliness. Lots and lots of giggles.

Jack Prelutsky has done it again! His wonderful use of wit and humor appeal to children of all ages. My class loves it when I read Prelutsky's poems and stories aloud to them. If you are a teacher, and want to get your kids excited about reading, I would definitely add any or all of Prelutsky's books to your classroom library! Happy Reading!
