My reason for writing this book is multifaceted. First, it is a contemplative look back into a distinctive time in America's history through the lives of my two grandfathers, Maurice Elmer Drake and Archibald Vance Houston; and an examination of their service to our great country during World War II. My life intersected these two men as a result of my parent's loving choice to adopt me as their son at the time of my birth. Second, it is a critical look into our present situation as a nation, as compared to and contrasted with our past, which I undertook with a burning desire due to the personal impact of my grandfathers' service. Lastly, this book is a consideration of the future of this great country as it lies in the hands of my generation and outlines our responsibilities: to protect it and to provide our descendants with the inherited freedom that was earned in blood by the Greatest Generation over sixty years ago. Our dad had always been reluctant to speak to us of his experiences in Germany during WWII, until he was nearing the end of his life. The annual reunions this group held were so very important to him that we joked that he'd rather miss Christmas than his reunion. This book gave us insight into the lives of these young men who were put into some of the worst nightmares imaginable. We discovered from family members of some of the other Veterans, that they also were unable to discuss events from the war. We have become more aware of the sacrifices their generation made for the future of humanity. We are forever grateful to Tim Drake for his book. We are even more grateful for the sacrifices made by the "Greatest Generation".

Tim Drake's passion for WWII history and dedication to his family and country come flying off the pages of this book. The depth of his research is truly amazing. A great read if you are a WWII buff or have general interest in history. I can't recomend this book enough.

This book is a highly readable and poignant memoir about two men who were members of our fading Greatest Generation. This is a story about their time of service in WWII, their actual war exploits, and their subsequent lives after the conflict ended. Grandson and WWII historian Tim Drake weaves a story of honor, sacrifice, duty and family, values on the wane today but highly prized many years ago. Inherited Freedom will touch you. It will provoke you. It may even spur you to action. A timely book which will serve as a reminder of an America that seems to be lost forever. Mr. Drake is an up and coming WWII historian that has a great feel and passion for this subject. I encourage him to continue his studies and also to continue writing. There are still many stories left to tell.

What a read! The author's obvious love of country and family come through on every page. I really enjoyed reading about WWII from such a unique perspective. I hope Mr. Drake writes another book soon!
