So when Declan asks Gigi to help him prep for a big engagement party, she’s not only dealing with the heat of the kitchen and her own feelings for Declan, but Pia’s jealousy.

However, Gigi’s rising temperature quickly chills when the host of the party is found stabbed to death with an ice pick in back of the pub. Now, as Gigi’s beau, Detective Mertz, hones in on Declan as a possible murderer, Gigi will have to shave down the growing list of suspects quickly, before Pia’s newfound love interest finds himself locked in the cooler…

Absolutely amazing book. Peg Cochran was the first cozy mystery author I read and ever since I have been completely hooked. I always look forward to these books and I am hoping there will be more to come in the series.  This book was very well-written and I loved the side story with Gigi and Mertz...its about time!

Dollycas’s Thoughts Gigi’s Gourmet De-Lite has added several new customers but it is helping out Declan McQuaid with an engagement party at his bar that gets Gigi in hot water this time. Leaving the bar after the party and a drink with the hunky Declan, she finds the the father of the groom dead in the parking lot. She has to call her boyfriend Detective Mertz to report the body and when he arrives she is going to have to explain why she was still at the bar. To make matters worse the murder weapon was from the bar and Declan is the police’s prime suspect. Gigi also has a house guest. Her sister Pia has unexpectedly come to town and has no definite plans on when she is leaving. But Pia met this handsome bar owner (Declan) and thinks he just may be Mr. Right. Gigi starts investigating to help Declan and her sister’s heart. She has many more suspects than Mertz, she just needs to grill the right one. I really like these characters. Gigi is all about healthy eating but even she breaks down to share a pizza with her sister (using a paper towel to remove as much of the grease as possible). Declan, the local tavern owner would love to get much closer to Gigi, not Pia, but her heart right now belongs to the good detective. Mertz and Gigi are taking things slow. Even when things start to move a little faster they are always interrupted by something. It was fun seeing how this romantic triangle progresses. Pia is an artist and never stays in one place for long and there is usually a man involved when she decides to hit the road. All these relationships are very believable. Ms. Cochran’s character building is top-notch, including the new characters brought together for the mystery in this book. The author has cooked up a way to not only keep readers on our toes but gives us an outcome that made perfect sense. The plots and subplots in Iced to Death blend together very naturally. Most of the suspects are either Gigi’s clients or connected to one of them. This enables her to conduct her “investigation” through her normal activities. I don’t know how she juggled everything and never missed a meal or a delivery but she did. The woman does have a lot on her plate. Another tasty mystery from Peg Cochran. I loved it!

I LOVED this book! So cleverly written with great romantic overtones, it's unlike any cozy I've ever read. It has a raw sort of quality to it, making it feel real. The setting is quaint, the characters are feisty, and the mystery keeps you guessing even as Gigi narrows down the list of suspects. The subplot of the book is just as exciting as the murder mystery itself, and the pacing of the author's writing is superb. My favorite thing about this book was the relationship between Gigi and Pia. It was similar to the relationship that I have with my sisters, and reminded me that despite my own feelings at so many times in life, I'd go out of my way to ensure their happiness, just as Gigi does for Pia. It's very sweet! I also love the relationship between Gigi and Detective Mertz - they just have great chemistry! Having never read the first two books in the series, I was a tad bit worried about being behind. But, I can assure you, this was not the case. From start to finish, this book is electric - what I would certainly call a page turner. It's well worth the time to read, and makes me want to run out and pick up the first two! I cannot wait for the next release in the Gourmet De-Lite series. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions are my own.

The third book in Peg Cochran's Gourmet De-Lite Mystery series, Iced to Death will have readers on the edge of their seats with not only the whodunit but the happenings in main character, Gigi's personal life as well. Cochran's trademark for exceptional character development continues with the addition of a few new faces in the series, including Gigi's sister Pia. The red herrings abound and with more than one murder victim Gigi has her hands full with this mystery. Readers will love it when the suspects start to multiply and the motive is still allusive. A great addition to the series! What I liked: I always enjoy reading about Gigi and her gourmet door to door business. Delivering meals three times a day can get a bit hectic, especially when her sister Pia decides to make a surprise visit and a murder occurs quickly after. Gigi's personal life is often just as interesting as the mystery itself and that's true in this novel as well. In Iced to Death, Pia's visit causes all kinds of situations to develop. First, Pia falls for bar owner Declan McQuaid. Gigi has some pent up feelings which she refuses to admit for Declan and ends up with Pia being jealous of her, Gigi's boyfriend Bill Mertz jealous of Declan and so forth and so on. It was quite a mess but definitely an entertaining one, especially when a someone is murdered with an ice pick that happens to belong to Declan. I think Cochran does a great job of making everything about Gigi interesting. She is so full of life it isn't any wonder that everything around her is chaotic. The mystery itself had some punch as well. Gigi is helping Declan when an engagement party that gets out of hand. The father of the would be groom storms out and is later found dead. Declan gets accused of the murder because the ice pick found in the body is one of his. But he's not the only one who could have been the culprit. There are plenty of suspects to do around, from the son who needed money to the woman who didn't get the promotion and it's up to Gigi to clear Declan and figure out whodunit. I loved the way Cochran kept me guessing with this one. I always know I will get a good mystery with her books, one that might take me a while to put together. Iced to Death was definitely a puzzler. As usual Cochran keeps readers guessing until the very end. About not only the mystery but about these feelings Gigi seems to have for Declan. Though she blushes in his presence and definitely thinks he's hot, I think detective Mertz is still her number one, at least for now. I love the way Cochran balances all of the aspects of Gigi's life. Her love life, her career and her sleuthing. It's always a pleasure to read more about Gigi. What I didn't like: There were a few grammatical errors in the finished copy that stood out, but I'm not a stickler for those kinds of things. There are still come inconsistencies in the timing throughout the book. For someone with her own small business Gigi certainly seems to have more time on her hands that expected. Neither of these things is a turn off to reading the book, just little things that could easily be fixed. Bottom Line: This is a great series, and Iced to Death is a great addition to it. I like spending time reading about these characters. I want to know what's going on in their lives and what mystery that Gigi is going to find herself in the middle of next. If you're looking for an author who knows how to write good characters, you can't go wrong with Peg Cochran.

Iced to Death is the third book in the A Gourmet De-Lite Mystery series. Upon coming home from delivering her customers meals, she finds Ralph's Pizza delivery truck parked in her drive. Much to her surprise her sister, Pia, is paying an unexpected visit. Soon Pia tells Gigi that she has found the man of her dreams, Declan McQuaid. Declan is short handed at his bar and asks for Gigi's help in preparing the food for a private engagement party. Gigi wants to say no, knowing that her sister will think she is trying to win Declan's heart. Plus, Detective Bill Mertz will get jealous. But, she goes ahead and agrees to help Declan out. Bradley Simpson is toasting the happy couple and ends up berating his son, Hunter, for not following a family tradition of pursuing a law career. Hunter then storms out of the bar, leaving his fiancee behind. As Gigi is getting ready to leave, after her Declan have kitchen back in order, she finds the dead body of Bradley. One of Gigi's customers, Madeline, is the fiancée and Gigi wants to do a little of her own sleuthing, just to make sure that Madeline isn't involved. She soon finds that it's not going to be an open and shut case. It seems the Bradley's wife left early and has no alibi. Tiffany Morse, a lawyer at Bradley's firm and want to be made partner. She has just found out that she didn't make it. Was she upset enough to do Bradley in? And of course Hunter, who was upset with his father's toast. In addition, he has designed some medical equipment that he needs money for, to market it. Gigi has a full plate, what with the murder she is also concerned what her evasive sister is really up to and keeping her friendship with Mertz on an even keel. Pia is a great addition to this de-liteful service and am looking forward to learning more about her. And of course Reg, what an adorable character he his. Really looking forward to the next book and see how the romance is going for Gigi.
