Overview

"An animal cast so elated that they seem on the verge of jumping into readers' laps. . . . The high-contrast pictures and exclamatory text are guaranteed eye and ear magnets for the littlest ones." — PUBLISHERS WEEKLY (starred review)

"I saw the baby!
Did you see the baby?"
"Yes! I saw the baby, the teeny weeny thing."

It's so exciting! News of the baby is buzzing from animal to animal, with each one — fish, bird, squirrel, insect, frog — boasting of seeing, feeding, singing to, tickling, and kissing the tiny little thing. With bold, graphic black-and-white illustrations, Mary Murphy's simple, singsong story captures the giddy commotion that only a baby can bring.

The simple, fun illustrations held my baby's attention from when she was scarcely a month old. The words have a lyrical quality that I think make it easier for the baby to remember, and now at five months, my daughter immediately starts smiling when she hears the opening line.

I love this little story, all the animals talk about what they do with the baby, ending with Mamma kissing the baby - AGAIN! lots of chances to do different voices to catch baby's attention, and the sharp contrasts of the black and white illustrations draw babies eye.

I read about this book in the Chinaberry catalog and it is absolutely wonderful. We have lost it once and I quickly went out and bought it again. So fun to read and judging by my daughter, an absolute blast to listen to as well! Deserves to be up there in your top 5-10 board books. In fact, my one year old "read to me" early with the last page, "Quack Quack, Baby" she surprised me with one night. It was precious! A keeper! Buy it for yourself, buy it for a gift, recommend it to your friends. WONDERFUL BOOK.
