Who needs mistletoe?

Most people wouldn’t think of a bad Santa case as the perfect Christmas gift. Then again, Molly Malone, office manager at Hunt Investigations, isn’t most people, and she could really use a distraction from the fantasies she’s been having since spending the night with her very secret crush, Lucas Knight. Nothing happened, not that Lucas knows that—but Molly just wants to enjoy being a little naughty for once . . .

Whiskey and pain meds for almost-healed bullet wounds don’t mix. Lucas needs to remember that next time he’s shot on the job, which may be sooner rather than later if Molly’s brother, Joe, finds out about them. Lucas can’t believe he’s drawing a blank on his (supposedly) passionate tryst with Molly, who’s the hottest, smartest, strongest woman he’s ever known. Strong enough to kick his butt if she discovers he’s been assigned to babysit her on her first case. And hot enough to melt his cold heart this Christmas.

I’ve been waiting impatiently for Hot Winter Nights, the sixth book in the Heartbreaker Bay Series, since I’ve read About that Kiss because the chemistry was insane every time Molly and Lucas were in the same room. I knew that with all those heated looks between them, and the fact that Molly is Lucas’ best friend little sister, their story was going to be amazing! Turns out, I was right! Jill Shalvis is slaying me with this series! Molly works at Hunt Investigations as an office manager, even though she loves her job she wants to take on a different role. She knows she’s prepared for it but she has to convince Archer and her overprotective brother Joe that she is ready to investigate cases. She’s restless and she’s tired of being babied. Molly is probably the strongest heroine in this series, after Elle of course (no one is as hardcore as Elle!), she’s sassy, confident, sexy, smart and she drives Lucas insane with plenty of hilarious moments. Lucas is a strong, protective, smart, sexy, alpha man whore male, closed off emotionally because of his heart breaking past, that thinks Molly’s way out of his league. What I loved more about Lucas was that he always got what Molly needed, he was in perfect sync with her feelings and he didn’t tried to smother her with his protectiveness. I’d say he’s the sweetest guy of the group. So, there’s a lot happening in Hot Winter Nights, the night Lucas and Molly spend together (one night that Lucas doesn’t recall at all) puts everything in motion, there’s a very serious case involving sweet elves and a bad Santa, Archer and Joe trying to baby Molly, all the crazy gang meddling in everything with lots of hilarious dialogue, the sizzling chemistry between Lucas and Molly and very entertaining funny, crazy banter. Hot Winter Nights is another must read in this amazing series, highly recommended.

4.5/5 What is it about the Heartbreaker Bay series that makes me want to re-read each book whenever there is a new one added In Hot Winter Nights it is Molly's turn to step into the spotlight. You may remember Molly as the smart-alec sister of Joe and sassy office manager for the security team owned by Archer; because of Molly's connection to two of the main character within the series we already know quite a bit of her background story including how she got her limp and the struggles she and Joe had grown up with a veteran father suffering from PTSD. Molly needs to feel as if she is making a difference, she is 100% career focused due to her insecurities where relationships are concerned following a number of incidents leaving her heart bruised and confidence in tatters. Determined to support herself and not be seen as weak, Molly is trying to get Archer to progress her career into that of an operative rather than purely support staff, However, Archer and Joe both have overprotective tendencies to overcome before they can consider Molly for a more active role within the company. Approached by an elderly neighbour to look into a #badsanta provides Molly with the opportunity to prove herself while helping her neighbours. With Lucas on medically induced light work, he is assigned to 'babysit' Molly, although he has more confidence in her abilities than either Joe or Archer whose perceptions of Molly are clouded by their own experiences.  There have always been flickers of attraction between Molly and Lucas but their work situation and Lucas' friendship with Joe have prevented them from acting up their desires. Forced into close proximity only serves to take those flickers and turn them into an inferno!!! Unfortunately, Lucas and Molly's emotional baggage prevent them from trusting their feelings and each other fully. It is only when their #badsanta case takes an unexpected and dangerous turn are they able to admit to themselves the depth of their emotions. They only have to get past #badsanta and the #naughtyelves to be able to confess their feelings to each other.  I loved learning more about Lucas throughout Hot Winter Nights and witness his transformation through his relationship with Molly  ❤ The whole gang from the Heartbreaker Bay series make an appearance through Hot Winter Nights maintaining the incredible connection to the series as a whole and allowing fans to follow the progression of each of the featured couples' relationships. Jill has ingeniously laid the foundation for Caleb and Sadie's story in Playing for Keeps. I am bracing myself for another series re-read after that in January 2019

Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis Hearetbreaker Bay #6 Sitting here thinking about what to write about this book I have a smile on my face…and…thinking about the time spent reading this book I remember smiling throughout the story of Molly and Lucas and how they finally end up with their personal happily ever after. This book is a romantic mystery with some suspense but it is also a whole lot more. Shalvis has created a community of people that come alive on the pages and are there for one another. There are friendships and relationships and couples and romances and sharing and caring and…I could go on and on. In this story we find out more about Molly Malone and Lucas Knight. Molly started out as a receptionist at Hunt Investigations where her brother Joe works. As the only female working for the business she knows she wants to be one of the investigators in the field and not stuck in the office doing research only. The team of alpha males she works with sees her more as a little sister in need of protection and yet her goal is to be on the team as an equal member out in the field. Lucas is Joe’s partner in the field and his best friend. He may have had some lustful feelings for Molly but would never act on them because she is who she is and it is just not right to go there…no matter what. And yet when he finds her in his bed one morning and can’t remember anything about the previous night well…what is he supposed to do? When Molly and Lucas end up working on the Naughty Santa investigation together their relationship begins to change. Sure, they have chemistry and know what they want and what should not happen but…one thing leads to another and the story definitely heats up in more ways than one I loved Lucas – oh my did I love him! Charming, gorgeous, fit and a perfect book boyfriend who managed to see the strong Molly that others did not! And Molly was such a strong female lead with her brains, humor, pluck and indomitable will. I loved how much both cared for friends and family and eventually for one another. The way they communicated and trusted and shared…really spoke to what a real relationship should be. I love this author, this series and this wonderful book that still has me smiling as I finish writing my review. Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this book; the characters of Molly Malone and Lucas Knight were easy to relate to. Hot Winter Night is filled with drama, suspense, a little danger, angst, humour and endearingly tender moments. This was well written and had me captivated by the story line from chapter one. Molly is desperate to break out of the office and do some field work but her protective boss and brother do not think she is ready. They do not count on her determination to help out her neighbour who has a bad Santa situation happening and so Lucas is “encouraged” to assist her without her knowledge. I loved Molly’s determination to overcome her past. Still suffering extreme pain from an accident when she was 14, she is bound and determined that it will not stop her making the most of her job and life. Lucas, having lost a couple of important people has been closed off, determined not to get involved. Sparks have been flying between Molly and Lucas for quite a while and being thrown together as they investigate her case, it becomes harder to resist the attraction that is growing between them. What will happen when Molly finds out that her brother Joe and her boss Archer have asked Lucas to babysit her?

I just loved Molly and Lucas! I think that I had a big old silly grin on my face the whole time I was reading this book. I went into this book with some pretty high expectations since I have enjoyed each of the previous installments in this series. I have to say that I think that this might be my favorite book in the series so far. I really found this book to be an absolute delight. This book is the sixth book in the Heartbreaker Bay series. I really do think that this book would work perfectly well as a stand-alone. Some of Molly's history is dealt with in the previous book in the series but anyone new to the series could easily learn the details right along with Lucas without impacting the enjoyment of the story. Readers of the series will enjoy getting the opportunity to check in with all of the characters from this wonderful series. This book in a very entertaining manner. Lucas wakes up to find a woman in his bed but has no memory of what happened or who is actually snuggled under his blankets. Of course, it was Molly and she has some fun with it. Molly really wants to work cases instead of just being stuck in the office so she takes a case on her own pitched to her by a group of senior citizen elves working for a questionable Santa. Lucas is given the task of keeping an eye on her to make sure she is safe. I just loved Lucas and Molly together. Everything about their relationship felt authentic to me. I really liked that they were playful at times and serious during others. They both just seemed to understand the other and paid attention to details that others seemed to miss. They have both dealt with some pretty horrible things in their past which has caused them to guard their heart a little more than most. Molly has a lot of insecurities in regards to her previous physical injury and resulting limitations but Lucas doesn't see weakness, instead focusing on her strength. I thought that the mystery element of this book was really well done. They do spend quite a bit of time working the case which ends up being a lot more involved than originally thought. There were a few pretty suspenseful moments and just enough humor to keep things really interesting. By the end of the book, I was cheering Molly and Lucas on as they got to the bottom of the bad Santa situation. I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. Jill Shalvis has crafted a wonderful tale that has the perfect balance of romance, suspense, and humor with this book. I cannot wait to read more from this excellent series. I received a digital review copy of this book from Avon Books via Edelweiss.

With lots of heat, heart, and humor the Hot Winter Nights is just perfect escape reading in a cold autumn night. The touch of suspense with the Santa Village is written with such a delightfully witty way, at the most intense moments, you could have seen me cracking up. Lucas's reputation as a man whore got the same reaction from me as they always do, but as he opens up to Molly, and gives glimpses to his heart and mind, the losses in his past and the pain of broken heart is not only tangible, it also gives an insight into the way why he has avoided any serious relationships or feelings. Lucas turned out to be a refreshingly honest and open as he fumbles with his feelings with Molly. Molly is a firecracker, she is fiery, sassy, sweet, and kindhearted. I loved her spunk, her determination, her way of dealing with the overpowering men in her life. The connection and attraction between Lucas and Molly are tangible. I loved the banter, the teasing, and sizzle between them. Both of them acted a bit immaturely at times, yet I could not hold it against them, as they made me laugh. With one of the best definitions of what it means to be in love, with the moments of holiday magic, unexpected twists, and laugh out loud moments Hot Winter Nights is wildly entertaining, adorably touching, delightfully charming, and merrily sizzling story. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

Favorite Quotes: “I just got a text from Louise… It says, ‘Don’t be late for work tonight, Santa’s turned into Grinch. SMH.’” She blinked. “What does S-M-H mean?” “Shaking my head,” “Oh thank goodness… I thought it meant Sex Might Help.” Welcome to adulthood, where having Home Advil and Purse Advil is everything. I do miss cuddling. Sometimes I just need to be kissed and spooned, you know? I deserve that, I’m a decent person, I recycle. “I thought you had more game than that.” “Game?” Virginia asked on a laugh. “Honey, last night you kissed me and farted at the same time.” “I’m not sure what it says about me that a sixty-year-old Santa is getting more than I am,” she said. “Money or sex?” “Probably both.” “How about when I pretended to be Santa Claus for Sami?” He pointed to his cousin. “I climbed onto your roof and made reindeer noises and everything. You bought it hook, line, and sinker.” “Yep, right up until you fell off and past my window, breaking your arm. For years I thought I’d killed Santa. It was traumatizing.” They really should put prizes in our tampon boxes, like ‘hey, your period sucks, but here’s a fifty percent off ice cream coupon, you cranky bitch.’ My Review: Jill Shalvis is a guaranteed fun read. I am addicted to her clever humor and special brand of witty character banter. In addition to the secret romance that wasn’t supposed to be happening between co-workers who were investigating a case, that wasn’t supposed to be a case, involving a Christmas Village/Bingo parlor run by a felonious and licentious sixty-year-old Santa and his geriatric elves. The premise was original and ingeniously giggle-snort worthy. The storylines were highly amusing, continuously engaging, and cunningly crafted. But the treasure, as usual, was Ms. Shalvis’s compelling and captivating characters, who tend to be quick on the draw with sassy quips, highly capable and endearing yet deeply flawed, and good-hearted yet scarred and irreparably damaged. I enjoyed this book and this couple from beginning to end.

Hot Winter Nights was sexy, hilarious, heartwarming and made my heart beat faster. I loved this book with my whole heart and soul. And while it can easily be read as a standalone, I'm a little preferential to this fabulous group of friends and recommend picking up all of the previous books too. It's so much fun watching their lives intertwine, see what everyone is up to and falling in love with each couple in this series! While healing from a gunshot wound, Lucas Knight found Molly Malone in his bed the next morning. Even though nothing happened, Lucas couldn't remember anything thanks to alcohol and his pain meds, and Molly had way too much fun making Lucas think otherwise. You see, not only did they work together, but Molly was Lucas' best friend's little sister. There had always been this addicting sexual tension running between them. And they were about to spend even more time together! When a bad Santa case ended up in Molly's lap, she secretly took it on. She would love to go from office manager to private investigator and this could help her get what she wanted. Thankfully she had Lucas who would help her along the way. I. Loved. Lucas! If you are addicted to alpha males, you have to meet him. He was honest, trustworthy and also sexy as sin. He put his whole heart in his job, even if it was broken from the past. But thankfully he had this fabulous, loud, meddling family that I fell head over heels for. They added so much heart from just the few scenes they were in. And he also had Molly filling up his life with light and laughter. I adored Molly, she was brave, fierce, loyal yet she heavily guarded her heart. Her past had physically and emotionally scarred her and even though Molly and I didn't seem to have anything in common, I clicked with her right away. While Lucas and Molly worked on the bad Santa case they spent more and more time together. I loved how they joked around and that it was beyond obvious that they wanted each other. But it wasn't all fun and games for Molly since she kept putting on the breaks. I got it, but oh it pained my heart. I just kept my fingers crossed that they'd figure it out because together they were something spectacular. It got to the point where they definitely couldn't ignore what was happening between them. One thing led to another and words turned to touches, sigh. And through it all I kept finding myself smiling, sighing, laughing and clutching my heart. Not to mention there were a few scenes that had me screaming while giggling and others where I found myself with tears in my eyes. This book put me through the emotional wringer. So of course I definitely recommend Hot Winter Nights. If you adore alpha males, mysteries, bad Santa's, strong heroines and a fabulous group of friends then definitely pick his one up! PS The Friends references, in some of the titles for the chapters, oh my gosh I loved it! *I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, provided by the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

4.5 stars I really enjoyed Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis. The storyline is well written, the plot well paced and all the characters added to my overall enjoyment. I loved watching Lucas and Molly's relationship unfold, they made me smile and laugh with their antics and they made me swoon with their tender moments. These two were perfect together and I was so happy to have read their love story. If like me you're after a well written, sweet, entertaining romance then I highly recommend Hot Winter Nights.

Lucas Knight has had a starring role in Molly Malone's fantasies for sometime now, she has dreamed of the day that he would make his move, swoop in the office and plant a sultry kiss on her... but unfortunately that just seems to be a dream that isn't going to become a reality. She has seen him pick-up random woman in the bar, often wondered what they had that she didn't, and often wished her body and heart didn't want him the way they do, cause to him she just seems to be his best friend's little sister and that's downright depressing on all fronts. Then one night she comes to his aid after a night of drinking, and she decides she is going to make her move on him, but that doesn't end quite the way she'd hoped for... but the next morning when he wakes up beside her, it sure pays off handsomely! Everyday he sees her, fantasizes about her, and wishes he could capture her attention and maybe more; full well knowing acting on his impulses could land him in a heap of trouble with his best friend, and her older brother. Molly is smart, beautiful, and drives him crazy on a daily basis, and each day it becomes a test of his strength not to flirt with her, or make his interest known; but even if he did ever work up the courage he's not sure his desires would be returned. Then one night he makes an epic mistake and gets falling down drunk, and wakes up with her in his bed, and what follows is something he never expected! Within the pages of this perfectly crafted tale lies a story that is certain to inspire many laughs, a few happy tears and lots of fan-worthy swoons; Ms. Shalvis really delivers with this one!! In this newest installment of the Heartbreaker Bay series we meet Lucas and Molly, and I have to say these two really know how to bring the heat to the pages, as well as lots of gut-wrenching emotion too... these two nearly did me in!! Just a few pages in and I felt like I was home again, surrounded by some of my favorite characters, it was so much fun to be back in Heartbreaker Bay again, each trip just gets better and better!! If you love small town romances loaded with humor and heart, then this is the perfect read for you, Ms. Shalvis's wonderful characters are sure to keep you thoroughly entertained! Highly recommend! I requested an advanced copy of this title, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

This is such an incredibly fun, romantic and suspenseful ride! I absolutely loved it as I have every book in this series!! This story brought out quite a few feelings but happiness and humor were definitely at the forefront of those. Lucas and Molly not only work together but Molly is his friend and partner's sister to boot. Many lines that shouldn't be crossed. Says who? I loved Lucas & Molly's interactions of every variety! They were meant for each other even if it took a while to get there. They both needed to heal from past relationships. That was the fun of the story. The job they were on together, much to the others' dismay, was suspenseful and a little hairy for sure but they got through it and Molly proved herself to be worthy of much more than just the resident front desk/IT geek at Hunt Investigations. Loved getting glimpses at some of my fave characters from this series! That fountain though! Gets 'em every time!

What can I say Jill does it again with this book. I was up way past my bedtime to finish reading this book. First off poor Lucas. I love Molly she is such a firecracker and she doesn't let anyone get away with anything. She is the kind of woman I would like to be, oh wait I am, haha. She is strong, brave and fearless but she also has the best heart. Lucas is a bad-ass but also knows how to treat a woman. Lucas and Molly compliment each other though they just don't know it most of the time, which makes the book so much fun to read. I also love how Jill tells you who the next book is going to be about but she does it very subtle.

Molly Malone has spent the past two years as Office Manager at Hunt Investigations, first proving she could handle the basics, and quickly becoming indispensable to Archer and the boys: her research is impeccable, organization skills second to none – and she makes the best coffee in the building. Oh – and she does all of this without allowing herself to be over-talked, bullied, pushed or ignored by the boys, even when they are desperate to ignore her. But Molly, despite having solid friendships, a brother who is constantly on the lookout for her, a new sister-in-law and plenty of tasks to keep her busy, is bored. She wants more challenges – to be put in the field and in charge of her own case – despite the near-constant refrains from her boss and his crew that she isn’t ready. Lucas took a bullet while rescuing an innocent in his last assignment, and is feeling more than a bit restless with the ‘doctor mandated’ resting period. That boredom also popped him off his game when after downing his painkillers, he joined the crew at Finn’s pub downstairs, and a glass of whiskey left him waking in the morning to an unknown woman in his bed and no memory of the night before. Lucas has been, for the last few years, unwilling to commit to a relationship, or even more than a second date. He’s also pulled back from his family, keeping them ignorant of his very dangerous job, and the thrill he gets. But this, with a night he doesn’t remember with Molly of all people, his partner’s little sister, he’s sure that nothing but trouble will follow. Far more a story of Lucas and Molly as they find their relationship moving from friends to working operative colleagues to lovers, and all of the individual hang ups that they both have regarding relationships. Oh, and the action – serious action as everyone at Hunt Investigations sees that Molly, despite being mouthier than is strictly necessary, isn’t all talk – she can (and does) back it up with some seriously clever moves that she’s learned and adapted to allow for the lasting effects of her injuries. And when Lucas is first confronted with the business end of a shotgun when meeting Molly’s father, the horrifyingly hysterical realization comes to readers that these two are meant to be – even though they don’t see it themselves. Add in the attraction that leaps off the page, two characters more interested in remaining independent despite their off-the-chains chemistry than they expected, and quickly fall into the ‘no strings’ trap that, of course, ties them both up in knots to rival a macramé hammock, their fate is nearly destined. Nearly only because the operation they are both working on quickly goes pear-shaped, and both their lives are in danger… If you’ve not read the Heartbreaker Bay series – What are you waiting for? Go Get it NOW. What’s not to like? You’ve got friends to lovers, solid friendships, puppies, Alpha males who are little more than putty when it comes to their women, a legendary fountain, issues to work through and plenty of laughs and more than a subtle push from a homeless hippie who misses nothing. And, it’s got the moments from Shalvis that everyone loves: that small-town community feel where everyone has a place and someone to watch their back, chemistry that is off the chain, puppies, snark, laughs and acceptance that all come together with a dash of magic: guaranteed to take you away on an adventure. And, better still, if you’ve read the series – this is yet another

Hot Winter Nights is a fun and flirty friends to lovers romance. Hot Winter Nights follows the story of Lucas and Molly. From the moment we meet up with Lucas and Molly, you can tell that they are just going to be explosive. Their chemistry is obvious right off the bat. Lucas knows he should stay away from Molly, but he can’t fight the pull. And Molly has had a crush on Lucas for the longest time and can’t stop thinking about the night she spent with him. While nothing happened that night, it only intensifies the way that Molly feels for Lucas. So, when an opportunity presents itself for Molly’s first case, she can’t help but jump at the chance for a distraction…. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I had a lot of fun losing myself in the characters and their story. I loved the idea of the story and the case of the Bad Santa. I thought this story had some great suspense and I was excited to see Molly prove herself to everyone. Molly was super smart and had some really great instincts. She couldn’t have found a better partner than Lucas. Not only did they have amazing chemistry, but Lucas knew his stuff and gave Molly the support that she needed. I loved watching these two work together and see the tension just sizzle between them. I couldn’t wait for them to get to the bottom of what was going on and more importantly, I couldn’t wait for them to give in to their feelings. Hot Winter Nights is a fun and entertaining read with just the right amount of steam, romance, action and suspense. It’s a great book to spend your day getting swept up in and will definitely put you in the holiday spirit.

I love all the guys that work for Archer but Lucas definitely has a soft spot in my heart. Having lost his girlfriend and his brother in the past few years, he's afraid to love. But he doesn't see Molly coming. Molly waltzes in and steals his heart with her strength and sassy attitude. She doesn't need anyone. But she wants Lucas. And he's willing to go along with her scheme to rid the Christmas Village of the Bad Santa so that he can keep a watch on her. What he doesn't expect is to fall for her. And he falls hard. It's so fun to watch a super alpha man fall, isn't it?

Hot Winter Nights (Heartbreaker Bay, #6) by Jill Shalvis Each book in this series gets better and better...Thank you Jill for taking me to Heartbreaker Bay and letting me live there for a while. Molly and Lucas finally get together to solve the "Bad Santa" mystery and solve their attraction for each other. They each have walls and it takes effort to break them down. She wants to work in the field and all the guys including Archer (her boss) and Joe her brother disagree and want to protect her...she has a mind of her Lucas is tasked with keeping her safe. This is where it gets interesting .. there is mystery, danger, lots of laughs and some tears and touching family stuff...and of course lots of steamy sex all to get to a very HEA. I'm looking forward to PLAYING FOR KEEPS (Heartbreaker Bay #7) Caleb and Sadie's story.

Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis is the 6th book in her wonderful Heartbreaker Bay series. Having read all the books in this series, I could not wait to get my hands on this one, which I always expect from Jill Shalvis, was fun wonderful read. This book does read very well as a standalone, but why miss out on the earlier wonderful fun heroes/heroines that make this series so much fun; you need to start at the beginning. Molly Malone, our heroine, is the office manager at Hunt Investigations. Archer (previous hero, and owner of Hunt Investigations) knows Molly’s desire to handle cases, but he has no intention of allowing her to be in any kind of danger. When Molly neighbors approach her about a case of “a bad santa”, who they suspect is hiding money, and not paying them to be elf’s. Lucas Knight, our hero and an investigator for Hunt, wakes up after a getting drunk the night before to see Molly in bed with him. Lucas doesn’t remember anything, and is concerned that he is in trouble, since Molly is Joe’s (his partner) sister. Nothing happened, but Molly enjoys teasing Lucas about their night together. When Archer finds out that Molly is going to work on helping her neighbors, he enlists Lucas to watch over her. As they begin to work together, Lucas finds himself falling hard for Molly, and Molly already has a huge crush on him. There chemistry together was sizzling, and in a short time, they become friends with benefits. Though they both know their true feelings has nothing to do with friendship, as it has escalated to love for them. Each has their own personal issues that threaten to block their relationship. In the midst of this sweet romance, the case of ‘bad santa’ puts both of them in danger. What follows is a sweet romance, as well as a very good mystery. There are some dangerous intense situations with both Molly and Lucas along the way. What makes this even better, are their friends, whom we have come to love over the previous 5 books . Lucas and Molly was a great couple, very hot together; lots of fun to watch them falling hard for each other. As I have said before, Heartbreaker Bay is a great series to enjoy, and I suggest you start with the first book. Hot Winter Nights was a fun, exciting, sexy, enjoyable read, with an outstanding cast of characters and a bit of mystery. If you love romance, humor, friendships, a sexy couple, and are not reading Jill Shalvis, it is time for you to do so.

Molly and Lucas both work for Hunt Investigations with Molly in the office and Lucas as an investigator. Molly’s older neighbors come to her with concerns about the Christmas Village where they work and are not being paid as expected but Hunt Investigations will not take the case. Molly decides to look into it on her own. Lucas, while watching over her, also helps her to investigate. Jill Shalvis has created in depth characters in Molly and Lucas. They each seem to be fighting their own demons as they spend time together both on and off the case. This books begins and ends with humorous situations. I fell in love with their entire group of friends and got so much enjoyment from this book. Congrats to Ms Shalvis on her latest 5 star read.

Hot Winter Nights is book six in the Heartbreaker Bay series by Jill Shalvis. Maybe my memory is failing me in recalling details of the previous five books because I feel like this one had a bit more suspense in it. We are hearing more of the details that go on inside Hunt Investigations and let me tell you, these guys have some dangerous jobs. You can definitely read this as a stand alone. The characters are recurring from the previous books but are not required to be able to jump right into this one. Molly Malone is Joe’s little sister whom we have met in a previous book! She is the office manager and is incredibly good at her job. But she wants more. She wants to be part of the team. Only her brother Joe and the boss, Archer, who are both incredibly protective of her, keep telling her she’s not ready. When Molly was fourteen, something happened to her that caused her to suffer permanent nerve damage to one of her legs. Not to mention the many surgical scars that cover her body. Because of this, she has had bad luck with romance and has been hurt. She’s pretty much given up on finding a man who would accept her, scars and all. Lucas Knight is one of the private investigators at Hunt Investigations. He is best friends with Joe and Archer. There has been an underlying electricity between he and Molly for some time. But firstly, Molly is off limits because she is Joe’s sister and a fellow employee. Besides that, Lucas is not a relationship type of guy and he knows Molly deserves more than a one and done. Lucas has suffered not one but two great losses in his life. The pain he has experienced has caused him to pull back from his family. And it has convinced him that that kind of pain is not worth it. That he won’t put himself through that again. When Lucas wakes up after stupidly mixing pain meds from a recent gun shot wound and alcohol, naked and in bed with none other than Molly, he is completely freaking out because he can’t remember a thing. Molly keeps telling him he was a disappointment but when they finally do kiss, he knows he would remember that kiss, because it was the best kiss of his life. It’s nearly Christmas and Molly’s elderly neighbors have come to her for help. They are elves that work at Santa’s workshop. It seems that bad Santa has been short changing them claiming that he’s not making any money. But that’s not what they see. The nightly bingo hall is packed and the cash is coming in like crazy. So they want Molly to help them find out what bad Santa is really up to. Archer and Joe will not give Molly permission to take the case. When they realize that she is going to do it anyway, they assign Lucas secretly to keep an eye on her. As Lucas and Molly begin to investigate the bad Santa case, Lucas begins to realize that Molly really is more than capable. She’s amazing in fact. It doesn’t take long for that electricity to become too much for them both to ignore. And for feelings to develop, for both of them. “It’d been a long time since she’d allowed herself to trust a guy to see past her flaws. But it was as if he didn’t even see them at all. He simply saw all of her, as a whole, and that was incredibly freeing.” As Molly and Lucas delve into the case, it soon becomes obvious that there really is something going on here, something more dangerous than either of them anticipated. And they are both caught right in the middle of it. All the while, their feelings are continuing to

Once again, this talented author gives us a story that will touch your hearts and grasps your attention from page one. We are back in Heartbreaker Bay and the employees of Hunt Investigations. This time the story belongs to Molly Malone, and Lucas Knight. Molly runs the front office and manages the crew, but she really wants to be an investigator like her brother Joe. Of course big brother is opposed to that . Lucas is assigned to watch “her six” when she is determined to help a group of seniors . As the investigation gets more complex , so does the relationship . Though neither of them acknowledges it, they have been attracted to each other. But these two have suffered losses and either wants to get involved with anyone for fear of losing them as well as getting hurt. Though at times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming, the author gives us an engaging plot with complex characters you will come to love. If you have read the previous books, some of the characters make an appearance. But if not, do not fear, it’s definitely a stand alone. Another winner by this talented author. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Jill Shalvis knows her way around romance. Hot Winter Nights gave me heart tingles. Molly finally gets her chance to shine. She's sick of waiting on the sidelines. Unfortunately, she jumps from the frying pan rather quickly and lands herself in some serious hot water. Leading with her heart has a way of biting her in the butt. This time around Lucas is there to cushion the fall. She comes into her own with that fighting spirit, I love and a vulnerability she always hides. Shalvis can take a piece of my heart anytime.
