Dive into this playful poem about the draw of the shore and the effect the ocean has on all five senses.
Relive a day at the beach with this lovely book of memories. You can almost feel the salt spray on your face and smell the musky scent of ocean in the cool morning air. Remember how the sand squishes between your toes as the tide rushes to shore and taste the tang of the ocean on your lips. Spirited language evokes a sense of closeness and nostalgia for an old friend. The inspiration of the ocean will make learning the five senses as easy as a day at the beach.
Crisp, realistic illustrations fill the pages with the rush of surf and the warmth of sun-baked sand. The sights and smells and sensations of the sea become vividly clear in these beautifully rendered paintings.

I had to add my two cents about this one. Having accumulated a few hundred children's books over the years, I have found another CLASSIC. This BEAUTIFUL book has everything I look for to read to children. Utmost is heart and soul and this book goes even further. It introduces the five senses and magically combines poetic verse with colorful art and gives an amazingly real sensory experience of being at the ocean. The little girl's facial expressions, hair and skin tones realistically change just as one would expect while spending an entire day at the beach. Going in and out of the water, getting sunburn and even tiring as the day turns to dusk, the artist's depictions are right on the money. As the sunlight changes throughout the day so do the skin tones. Very perceptive. Pam Munoz Ryan is a talented author whose other books are in my collection. I will read this book to my grandchildren but keep it in plastic for them to share with their grandchildren as I'm sure it will become a collectors item.
