Fans of Catherine Coulter's Bride series will be delighted to hear the vixen/innocent Sophia come alive through this accomplished reading by British native Anne Flosnik. Listeners will be more than entertained by her articulate performance as she brings a cast of disparate characters to life. As many remember, the Bride series began with the Sherbrooke Bride in which we met Douglas Sherbrooke, the Earl of Northcliffe. Tall, dark, and handsome? Of course, as is Ryder Sherbrooke whom we meet in The Hellion Bride. He's a lady killer if there ever was one. A typical love 'em and leave `em type who is used to having the gentler sex melt before him. Now, gentler sex is not a description one thinks of in regard to Sophia. While she's not yet 20, she's apparently a woman of the world who is used to having her own way. Gossips say that at her tender age she already has three lovers. She lives in Jamaica, home of the Sherbrooke Sugar Plantation. Ryder has come to the Plantation to put an end to rumors of supernatural goings-on. As it turns out, supernatural forces are nothing compared to Sophia. Will Ryder tame her or will she be the conquering heroine? Historical romance fans will relish The Hellion Bride, with sex, secrets, and romance aplenty. - Gail Cooke

I wish I could like this book as I do the others in this series. Alas, while I know the two decades of rape in romance fiction has only in recent years come to a well-needed close, this book takes it to such extremes as to make it unbearable. Ryder thinks that as long as he uses "cream", sex with his unwilling wife is a necessity to overcome her brutal past. And the convolutions necessary to have given Sophie a past of sexual abuse but kept her a virgin are ludicrous. I keep this book in my collection for completeness only.

Ryder has been one of the funniest, perhaps cutest character I've read out of Catherine Coulter's many books. This book gives surprising depth to the charming rake we've come to know in the first book and makes you love him even more. This is a must read.

I dont know but I liked this one the least out of the bride series. I didnt like the new kindness Ryder seemed to have, but oh well. This book was good but it kind of bored me. I usually read books ive already read like 3 times after some time. I wont be reading this one again.

This book showed more of a softer, caring part of Ryder. He wasn't the man showing up for the quarterly meetings any more. He was being a responsible and honerable man. He becomes the hero by saving Sophia and caring for her as he falls in love with her. I loved the carachter of Sophia because even though she was the one being saved she seemed like the woman who was able to take care of herself and was ready to do it as well as caring for her younger brother. She was the kind of woman who could take charge.

This is the second book of the Bride series and I loved it the best. First because the main character is very warm hearted and caring, though it seems as if he tries to hide his feelings for a purpose of protecting others from thinking he is someone he shouldn't be. Second, I really like this book because the story takes place in Jamaica. From up here in Minnesota that sounds like the place to be. Ms. Coulter is at her best in this romantic, breathtaking story of two young people who find love in different countries, and find themselves in each others' hearts. What an adventure.

Lately I have been reading more along the lines of Oprah books, but I have to say this was a delightful much needed break. It was a fast fun ride that kept me wanting a bit more. Romances are romances and every so often you get one that makes you wish your husband was like Coulter's Ryder Sherbrooke.
