Women often say a good man is hard to find. And a hard man is even better.
That's why I'm quite a catch-- good, hard, loaded, and wait for it...I'm ready to settle down too. But the woman I want to pitch my tent with lives clear across the country. Neither of us wants to get lost in those woods. All I have to do is resist her for the week she's in town.

I try. I swear I try. But yeah, that doesn't work out.

And after one fantastic night with my good friend Mia, I'm ready to give her years of nights under the stars. What's a few thousand miles when love's involved? But there's a hitch in my plans -- she just hired my adventure tour company. If there's one thing I'm committed to, it's running a squeaky clean business. Number one on my list of iron-clad rules?

Don't screw your customers.
But what's a guy to do when she's so hard to resist? How hard can it be to keep our hands off each other for a quick group tour down the hills and over the trails? I'm about to find out, and I have a feeling I'm going to need a new badge of honor because things are about to get very hard in the woods.

I'm going out on a limb here and saying that Patrick is the most romantic Blakely boy to date. I know some won't agree, because lord knows Clay Nichols is all kinds of romantic and swoony, but Patrick, man, there is just something about him that hit me in all the right places. If you ask me what that something is, I honestly couldn't break it down to anything specific; it's everything about him. It's the complete joy he gets from his job. It's the fact that he has a freaking adventure cat with its own Instagram account. It's how totally and utterly he is into Mia, and has been from the moment he met her. I want to be Mia and have all that love and affection directed at me. I'm not going to lie, I got more emotional with this book than I have with any of the other ones in this series of standalones. And it's not because this is the last of the bunch, although that makes me teary-eyed, too. I really felt the emotion between Mia and Patrick. And as much as I have adored all the other books and couples, (and believe me I have!), this one was just a little more special to me.

Who is ready for a sexy, rugged outdoorsman who also happens to be a pretty freakin’ great guy?!! Yeah me too. Thankfully, Lauren Blakely has given us the perfect person in Patrick. Adventurous, sweet, funny, and owner of the world's greatest cat, Patrick Milligan is everything!! *Swoon. I absolutely loved this book!! Hard Wood is a light hearted, laugh out loud, sexy, friends to lovers/ friend’s sister romance. I knew I wanted Patrick and Mia’s story the second they met in Joy Ride. Their connection sizzled off the pages. I love their well timed, witty, back and forth banter. And, of course it should go without saying, the heat between these two is off the charts. I especially love the forbidden element to this story. Not only is Mia Max and Chase’s sister, she also becomes his client when her company hires his company for a team building excursion. Watching these two work their way around their obvious passion for each other, was pure fun. I'm giddy just thinking about these two. LOVE them!! I will never not love a Lauren Blakely rom-com. These wonderful, good natured stories are highly entertaining, have amazing character chemistry, and full of heart. Big Rock - the first book in this series of standalone - was my introduction to this author. With Hard Wood being the sixth and final book, it warms my heart seeing all the characters that I love so dang much engaged/married/having babies and happy. I hate to see this series end but knowing Lauren Blakely’s writing, I'm sure we'll see these characters again.

Once again I must bow down to the amazing romantic comedic story telling of Lauren Blakely! 5 + incredible stars! This series has been one of the most fun and sexiest I have ever read. I hated that it had to end but am grateful for the tie-ups of the other couples' stories. Patrick & Mia's story knocked my socks off! Patrick is just everything! Sexy, funny, witty, strong, outdoorsey, cat lover and hotter than hell!! But what makes him even sexier is how he always really listens and remembers, which truly shows how deeply he cares for Mia. Mia is also amazing. She runs her own business, and is smart, funny, beautiful, sweet and a little sassy and head over heels for Patrick. There are just so many things to love about this book. It is such a fun, sweet love story. I love that Patrick & Mia finally take that next step in their friendship. The long distance between them had been what was holding them back from exploring what could be. They have known each other for some time given that he is Evie's brother and she is Chase & Max's sister. But during Mia's visit to NY this time, they are unable to deny their chemistry or the feelings they've developed for each other over the years. And OMG, their sexy times are super hot and steamy with some humor tossed in at times. So many great moments in this book! It's adorable how both Patrick and Mia are afraid to say how they really feel about each other when it is so obvious they are perfect for each other!! Best proposal ever!! It was so special and so them. The engraving in their rings was just the best! I loved the multiple epilogues, especially the last one. And finally, I just adore Zeus! I love his chapters so much; they are such a fun part of the story!! As a cat mom myself, I appreciated his thoughts. And finally, there are some of the best lines by a hero in a book that I think I've ever read. Patrick's personal twist on Thoreau's: Go confidently in the direction of your dreams...................... When Patrick says that Mia is the life he's imagined and he wants to make it real. Gave me goosebumps and I swooned. Then in the first epilogue, he changes the original Thoreau quote to make it his own about their relationship and gave me serious goosebumps again when he said: "Sometimes, I think this life we have is everything I imagined. But then I realize, it's even better than I could have dreamed." Oh Patrick, sigh.

I loved this latest love story in the standalone Male-POV books by Lauren Blakely. I just never tire of these touching, fun, sweet and sexy romances! Patrick and Mia were attracted to each other from their very first meeting. The problem is that they live on opposite coasts and rarely see each other. Mia is home for her brother's wedding and Patrick is ready to let her know how deeply he cares for her. But Mia just might have a few surprises of her own. I loved everything about this forbidden love story. It’s not full of angsty drama, but when Patrick takes Mia's group on a guided tour thru his adventure tour company, there are a few thrilling moments that take you by surprise. Ms Blakely creates wonderfully refreshing, multifaceted stories about real people who are interesting, socially conscious and face life head-on. It’s loaded with sexual tension, smoking hot passion, witty banter, laugh out loud moments, and those sweet and heartwarming moments as well, not to mention a very adorable cat named Zeus. The occasional 'Conversations with the Cat' were clever and hilarious, allowing us to peek into the minds of both Mia and Zeus. Their family and friends all make appearances as well, and it is a fun treat catching up on what is happening in their lives. This book is another brilliant, clever and sexy Blakely romance that is a MUST READ!

A Review of Hard Wood by Lauren Blakely Patrick and Mia - 5+++++ stars I absolutely LOVED this story! We've already met both of the main characters from previous books in the series and this pretty much ties up all the couples. Patrick has been harboring feelings for Mia since he met her but since she lives on the west coast and he lives on the east coast, he's held back. Mia's had feelings for Patrick as well, but since he is her older brother's best friend, she has been holding back. Which guy are you looking for, from the half dozen or so basic types of men in the world, that Patrick names: 1. The too-cool-for-school playboy who solemnly swears he’ll never settle down 2. The Grouchy McGrouch Pants - the surly, bearded guy that is a softie beneath the dickhead exterior he shows to the world, along with his beanie cap 3. The guarded businessman in his three-piece suit, housing deep, dark secrets that only one woman can unlock 4. The lumbersexual 5. The groomed father 6. The citified pretty boy 7. The hot nerd, or 8. The bad boy with a heart of gold. I ADORE the way Ms. Blakely draws you into the story that you are reading and makes you feel like you are part of this wonderful group of friends. And Zeus is soooo hilarious! You definitely want to pick this one up as soon as you can! Worth every single penny! **Honest review voluntarily provided from a Complimentary Copy**

**Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review** This story is one was have been waiting on for some time after meeting both Mia and Patrick in earlier books and what I can say is Lauren Blakely did not disappoint! Mia is the sister of Max and Chase and Patrick is Evie's brother and also one of Max's best friends. When Mia and Patrick met for the first time it was clear there was a connection and while neither one of them was ready to act on it at that time, time has passed and things have changed. Mia is smart, sassy, beautiful and the owner of her own beauty company. She has been spending time in New York since both of her brothers are there now, but currently she's in town for Chase's wedding. She has always had feelings for Patrick, but events in previous relationships have her cooling her jets just a bit. Patrick is funny, strong, outdoorsy, owns his own adventure tour company and is a cat lover. Oh and did I forget the fact that he's hotter than hot?! Yeah, he totally is. He's ready to settle down and he has definitely had his sights set on Mia for some time, but the fact she lives nearly 3000 miles away and she's his friend's sister have had him putting the breaks on. Well, he did until an almost kiss happened in an elevator... After the close encounter in the elevator between Patrick and Mia, they can't deny their attraction anymore. The chemistry they have is inferno level and there is no doubt that their feelings are extremely strong, but the question is, can they be together and handle a long distance relationship? Or is there another solution? I loved how this relationship unfolded and how certain small things became such driving forces in their relationship. It was very them and it was totally endearing. This book is exactly what I've come to expect from Lauren Blakely - witty, sexy and completely engaging! Loved it!

The queen of double entendre is back with a clever, scandalous and hard to resist anti hero. Hard Wood is another Lauren Blakely original. Relevant and at times deep subjects are tackled with humorous dialogue, risque innuedoes and sassy characters. Patrick and Mia are dynamite. Heat, humor and heart are on display with some wicked fun for good measure.

A nice read... Not too long but a nice story about a great guy who falls for his best friends brother... Well done by the author... A bit confusing in that our hero is a great outdoors guy who lives in NYC... Go figure... But, very enjoyable and by the way, he owns a cat that has a weekly TV show and a huge following on social media... Again, go figure... Fun read!!!

## DNF. So boring I couldn't finish it. This one missed the mark for me. The cat was in the book as much as the hero. I like cats. I really do. But I don't want them to have a starring role in my romance novel. Also, the hero and heroine had NO chemistry. Zero, zilch, nada. They felt more like cousins. Maybe that changed in the later chapters...(again DNF). If a book doesn't grab me by page 75-80, I'm out. Sorry, I recommend skipping this one.

Hard Wood was an enjoyable, funny, and cute read. It all had a very light and happy feel to it, with few bumps in the road. Patrick is a sweet and "normal" guy, as Mia says, and I loved him. I'm not much of a cat person, but I loved Zeus! He is adorable and his chapters were cute and unique, especially the last epilogue. Mia and Patrick are cute together and I enjoyed reading their journey. I especially loved that a lot of the previous characters were included and we got some updates from them. Hard Wood was a good way to end the series.

This series has the most drool worthy cover models because they are all told from the guys point of view, even Patrick's cat, Zeus, has something to say about the relationship that develops between Patrick and Mia. I loved the scenes where both Patrick and Mia confess secrets to Zeus; he knows everything that is in Patrick and Mia's hearts, but of course, he's keeping their secrets to himself. These characters are very likable and the storyline is enjoyable but it lacked conflict and the heartbreaking angst that goes hand when two people are falling in love. I read a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my unsolicited and voluntary review are completely my own.

"I'm the guy who's fit, successful, baggage-fu**ing-free, and--wait for it--ready to settle down. Just call me a four-leaf clover." Hard Wood is another terrific romantic comedy from author Lauren Blakely. From the moment you dive into Patrick and Mia's story you are sucked in. Their story is smartly written and entertaining. The chemistry between Patrick and Mia is just amazing. You can feel the sparks between the two of them no matter how much they try to fight it. From their entertaining banter and innocent flirtations, I couldn't wait to see how things would play out for the two of them. One of the things I really loved about this story is how it is written from the male point of view. I loved getting to see the inside of Patrick's head and I think the author did a brilliant job with it. I also really enjoyed the way that the author incorporated a few chapters from Patrick's cat Zeus. That's right. I said it. His cat. Zeus was just as funny and entertaining and will keep you begging for more. Hard Wood was a totally entertaining read. I loved getting lost in the characters and in the pages of their story. I really enjoyed this story-line and couldn't have asked for a better friends to lovers romance. The forbidden aspect to the story didn't hurt either! I laughed. I swooned. I fell in love. I couldn't get enough of the will they/won't they moments and I loved the passion between Patrick and Mia. This book was a lot of fun for me and I enjoyed spending the day with these characters.

The game of falling in love has no rules. You make them up as you go along. Patrick is now at a point in his early thirties, where he is ready to settle down and fall for the one. He has made his fortune doing what he loves best. With his trusted cat, Zeus, they are a package deal hard to pass up. Without realizing it, Mia has gotten under his skin. She is his best friend's sister...but not totally forbidden territory. But what is a man to do about the fact that she lives in San Francisco and he lives in New York? Can long-distance relationships be worth the trouble? These two characters are just thoroughly adorable! They are doing the "he/she loves me, he/she loves me not" dance. You know, the one where you do not know how much to reveal about how deep you have fallen because you are not sure if the other person has also fallen for you? They are great together! They can talk for hours and never feel weird. They like the same things. And they both feel safe when they are around each other. Of course, the lustful chemistry is also there, and they are both very much aware of that. They both have a confidant. Zeus the cat is the perfect friend. He will listen to their troubles and never breathe a word. This is why the cat always knows first! Anyone out there loves cats? If you do, you will immediately relate to the soothing purr and excellent listening skills of this intelligent companion. Being privy to his thoughts adds an interesting dimension to the story. This is a light-hearted, delightful romp through the outdoors. Love under the stars can be a beautiful thing. Patrick is that dream lover we all hope to meet! I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I thank the author for sharing a copy with me.

3.75 stars--HARD WOOD by Lauren Blakely is a contemporary, erotic romance found in the author’s series of standalone male point of view story lines including Well Hung, Mr. O, The Sexy One, Big Rock, Joy Ride and Full Package, connected by the familiarity of family, friendships and lovers.
