Hans Christian Andersen: Classic Fairy Tales (Barnes & Noble Collectible Editions) by Hans Christian Andersen, Dugald Stewart Walker, Hans Tegner

Hans Christian Andersen is one of the world's most popular storytellers, and his fairy tales are among the best-loved works of literature. Readers the world over know his poignant tale of "The Little Mermaid," who sacrifices everything for love, and "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," whose affection for a paper ballerina is symbolized by his transformation into a small tin heart. Several of Andersen's stories are so well known—among them "The Emperor's New Clothes" and "The Ugly Duckling"—that their titles alone have become meaningful figures of speech.
Hans Christian Andersen: Classic Fairy Tales collects 100 of Andersen's incomparable fairy tales and stories, among them "Thumbelina," "The Little Match Girl," "The Princess and the Pea," "The Red Shoes," "The Wild Swans," and his fantasy masterpiece, "The Snow-Queen." The book is abundantly illustrated with more than 100 hundred drawings and color plates by Dugald Stewart Walker and Hans Tegner, two of Andersen's best-known illustrators.
Hans Christian Andersen: Classic Fairy Tales is one of Barnes & Noble's leatherbound classics. Each volume features authoritative texts by the world's greatest authors in exquisitely designed bonded leather bindings with distinctive gilt edging and an attractive silk-ribbon bookmark. Decorative, durable, and collectible, these books offer hours of pleasure to readers young and old and are an indispensible cornerstone for every home library.

@Lori721 - Agreed. It's a beautiful cover and the content is good, so I'll give it 3 stars on the basis of that but the reprinting of available titles needs to stop. This is the THIRD cover of this book. B&N - From someone who LOVES this series and has over 20 books from it, please please PLEASE consider reprinting some of the out of print titles, like Narnia, To Kill a Mockingbird etc....even if it is only a limited edition run. I'd buy both in a heartbeat.

I know that the common complaint is that this is a reprint, but I do not own any of the previous editions and was more than happy to be able to purchase it. I particularly love the jeweled bird on the cover and this edition has color illustrations, something I'm not sure any of the previous editions have. Overall, it's perfect for my classics collection!

I have an older printing of this one already, but due to a water leak in my home while I was on vacation I'll be replacing it... I guess with this version? I agree with Alix26 about bringing back some of the older copies that are out of print. I have only just begun collecting these books this year, and there are about 8 or 9 older titles I would love to add to my library including Narnia, Audubon's Birds of America, and Wellsprings of Faith.

Is this just a reprint with a different cover (again) ? I really wish they would quit doing this.

Don't bother. This is the third release of this book. They just slapped a new cover on it. I'm really disappointed B&N keeps doing this just to secure sales from those who want to feel their collection is complete. This is also probably the poorest of the three covers. Pass on this one.
