Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer (The Lion King) is on a roll. In 2001, the composer -- who previously garnered Oscar nominations for Rain Man and As Good as It Gets -- was nominated once again for his visceral Gladiator score. Also in '01, Zimmer worked his magic on the eerie score to The Silence of the Lambs sequel Hannibal. As with Gladiator, Zimmer's music for Hannibal both enriches the film's tension-filled action and makes for satisfying listening on its own. In Maestro Zimmer, Hannibal the Cannibal has met his match -- at least artistically. The soundtrack begins with Sir Anthony Hopkins, who portrays the carnivorous serial killer Hannibal Lecter, rendering a sardonic, deliciously whispered reading of his letter to FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) that bleeds into the music. His voice pulls the listener into a subdued orchestral piece that quietly builds in intensity. By imaginatively juxtaposing a passage from Glenn Gould's legendary performance of Bach's sunny Goldberg Variations with brooding orchestration, Zimmer proves to be brilliantly in synch with the cunningly mathematical intricacies of Hannibal's twisted mind. In the same creepy vain is "For a Small Stipend," which sends chills up the spine through the spare plinking of piano keys. "I keep telling everyone this is a romantic comedy, but nobody believes me," Zimmer has said of Hannibal. Well, we’re not sure how funny the gory film is, but for all its scariness and bloodcurdling suspense, Zimmer’s Hannibal score certainly qualifies as hauntingly romantic. Andrew Velez

From The Gladiator to Mission Impossible 2, Hans Zimmer has been composing movie scores for years. This ornate album, aside from the menacing face on the cover, is classical at its best. The vocals, the ''Italiano'' gives that ''Outdoor cafe and a cappucino'' flair. The music is undeclarably unmatched.

I saw the film this evening, and the music was enchanting. Without the music, it would not have been as good - the music gave it an artsy effect - on the whole, for a sequal, I liked it. Photography was excellent which put it a notch above the Silence.... . I'm going to buy the soundtrack. I saw young kids get rejected from seeing this film - good goin, their minds are not set to put a movie like this out of their minds when it is over. After the movie, on my way home, I started to cry because the evil disturbed me. There have been people like him.

When you listen to the final cut on the HANNIBAL soundtrack, be prepared to be blown away. Patrick Cassidy's ''Vide Cor Meum'' is a achingly lovely, hauntingly beautiful aria. Highly recommended!

Remember those CDs that only have 1 track you love in your CD rack ? Dont let the last track of the movie ''Track 12''...yeah the beautiful one they cleverly played for you to remember at the end...it doesnt reflect the rest of the CD. Period.

Truly exquisite! ''Dear Clarice'' is my favorite track, as it is overlaid in the middle with the voice of Sir Anthony Hopkins reading Hannibal Lecter's letter to Special Agent Starling. It adds an incredible edge to the music and a technique that should be used in more soundtracks. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoyed the movie or Tom Harris' excellent book of the same title.

This is an excellent soundtrack that brings you back to the big screen. I really enjoy listening to every track on this album. The music is filled with love, peace, hate, and greed that you could almost touch them as if they are an entity.

this soundtrack is something that finally has done what thomas harris created justice. the movie may have nearly slaughtered the book, but this CD makes up for all of that. no where else is the true emotion of Hannibal been so perfectly expressed.
