Overview

Not to be confused with 1981's Greatest Hits, 1992's Classic Queen, or 1992's reissue of 1981's Greatest Hits, 2004's Greatest Hits is a superb 20-track sampler of Queen's best, eclipsing all of the aforementioned packages. Excepting their late-career singles, this set spans the British group's tenure, from 1974's "Seven Seas of Rhye" to a 1984 live performance of "Under Pressure." In between are a host of the ambitious, distinctive, and often brilliant songs on which Queen built their name. The multi-part "Bohemian Rhapsody," with its lilting melodies, layered operatic vocals, studio trickery, and heavy metal breakdowns, epitomizes the group's recombinant aesthetic and cheeky flair. The spare, disco-funk of "Another One Bites the Dust" and the breezy, music hall-like "Killer Queen" should be familiar to anyone within earshot of a radio in the '70s and '80s. The givens -- the camp-rockabilly "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and perennial stadium anthems "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" -- are here, but surprises like the exuberant "Don't Stop Me Now" give a well-rounded perspective on the band. With Brian May's unique guitar sound and Freddie Mercury's brash, personality-filled vocal performances, Queen was one of the most original and popular acts in rock history, and Greatest Hits brings the group's peak moments together on one remarkable disc. ~ Anthony Tognazzini

I bought this CD for Bohemian Rhapsody, instead of the other CD the store had, and I am so glad that I did. This is one of the best CD's that I have ever bought. There are not many CD's that I can listen to all the way though, but I can with this one. If you are a Queen fan, buy this CD.

FINALLY!!! I've waited a long time for GH1 to come to the states. So what if it has three extra tracks on it? This disc is worth obtaining because it's alot better than Hollywood records' version of Greatest Hits and Classic Queen, which really are a waste of time. Why Hollywood never released all three hits albums seperate still remains a mystery.

Greatly disappointed with the quality of this vinyl. The first time I played it one of the tracks skipped and the next tracks volume distribution was all over the place. It has been a pain to try to return and customer service has been no help at all since it was purchased through an outside party sold through BN. My suggestion is to splurge and buy a quality used vinyl that was manufactured when the vinyls were originally being sold. This is just a cheap mimic of it. Freddie would be disappointed.

The record was scratched and made the entire songs fuzzy. Terrible record quality, just stick to books.

I haven't opened the actual album because it's a Christmas gift, however, I ordered this Thursday evening and it was on my doorstep Saturday morning which I found very impressive considering shipping was free! I've frequently shopped in B & N stores but this was my first time ordering online and I'm very pleased with the experience.

Whoever's idea it was to make this Queen compilation was completely wasting time. It's just a copy of the very first "Greatest Hits", with three extra tracks. "I'm in Love With My Car", which is not a really good song, and two live songs. "Under Pressure", wasn't too bad, but it would have probably been a better idea to make it the studio version. And the other one, "Tie Your Mother Down", is not even a well known Queen song. If I find out that anyone buys this CD, I am going to laugh in their face!
