Pepper Martin returns in a new ghostly mystery when she is contacted by the ghosts of Eliot Ness and Al Capone . . .
Pepper Martin, now Community Relations Director of Garden View Cemetery, is contacted by the ghost of Eliot Ness, one of Cleveland's most famous dearly departed. According to Ness, the ashes scattered at the ceremony twenty years earlier weren't his. His were stolen prior to the ceremony by a Ness groupie, and he cannot rest until those ashes are found. Luckily, Pepper has an idea where they may be.

Knowing she'll have no peace until she does what the ghost wants, Pepper travels across town to retrieve the ashes. When she gets there, though, she finds more - and less - than she bargained for. There is a dead body in the house . . . and Eliot Ness's ashes have vanished.

Pepper sets out to solve the murder of the man in the house where the ashes were supposed to be. But when a mysterious package arrives for Pepper, containing the spirit of Al Capone, and her boyfriend Quinn begins acting strange, things go from bad to worse . . .

About the Author

Casey Daniels once applied for a job as a tour guide in a cemetery. She didn't get the job, but she did get the idea for the Pepper Martin mystery series. Casey learned to love mysteries early thanks to her father, a Cleveland Police detective who enjoyed Sherlock Holmes stories and spent his days off searching for stolen cars—with Casey along for the ride. Later, she read her way through every mystery on the library shelves. Casey has a degree in English and a background in journalism and teaching.

Wow, wow, and wow again. Graveyard Shift is the most intense of the Pepper Martin books I have read to date. Complex and surprising, this is one book you want to have time to read straight through because you are not going to want to put it down. There is a fascinating new character that I expect to see more of in the near future. I can not wait for the next book. When Elliot Ness, yes that one, shows up asking for help to find most of his ashes, Pepper is confused. They were spread in a pond in the cemetery long ago; only most of what was spread wasn't Ness. A relative kept his ashes and someone stole them. Now he is only a shimmer based on the few ashes in the lake which is a problem for him. But he knows where they are or where the are supposed to be. The big problem is that someone else want them too. And what is with Pepper's friends and loved ones acting so strangely? Life isn't just complicated; it is down right scary. I requested and received an advanced reader copy of Graveyard Shift via NetGalley. This review is completely voluntary! I always review books that I love!

I have been a Pepper Martin fan from book #1. So... Pepper and her close character buddies are important to me. That is what makes a great author! Pepper works for a cemetery but because of a head injury can be contacted by the dead. They have issues which is why they are still earth bound. Pepper gives them a hand fixing things. This is the 10th in the series but I would not want to read this one as a stand alone. The soul of the individuals would be somewhat lost. Puzzled as to the ending but other readers will have to work this novel into your schedule to find out what I mean. This is an honest review. Thanks to publisher and author via netgally for this opportunity.
