This board book is a simple concept book to teach colors, and is rather limited in range - it only introduces five colors. My biggest irritation with that is that it doesn't explore purple, even though there is a purple stripe on the cover. Surely they could have done one more spread! The flaps are pretty standard, also; the entire second page is a flap, and the only difference from spread to spread is where you pull the flap up, sometimes from the top, sometimes the bottom, or even the side. Despite the disappointing format, the content is superb, as I've come to expect from DK publications. The colors are bright and saturated, the photographs used to illustrate the different colors are crisp and clear. The pages are beautiful to behold, and in a book about color, that means a lot. The lovely layouts make up for the lack of originality or coverage, making this a decent book about colors for my girls to read.
