Overview

The five little monkeys and Mama are eager to get a new car. The five little monkeys clean and paint their old car until it sparkles like new. But who will buy it? Perhaps those clever monkeys can convince their cranky crocodile neighbors that what they really need is . . . yes, a car! Children will love predicting how the five little monkeys will deal with each new challenge, making this a perfect story for interactive reading. Lively verse and Eileen Christelow's inimitably comic illustrations put the five little monkeys in the driver's seat in more ways than one.

This is a counting book involving five little monkeys and their mother. The mother is tired of their old and dirty car so she decided to sell it. The little monkeys help her fix it up. When the newly cleaned and painted car rolls down the hill into the swamp, the crocodiles come to the rescue to help, and decide to purchase the car in the process. Counting is integrated throughout the entire story. The illustrations are bright and light, depicting the mood and storyline well. This is a great book for younger children who are learning to count.

Summary: The five monkeys and their mother decide to sell the old car. Mom goes to make the sign while the monkeys decide to try to make it look better by washing it, and doing more silly things and go so far they end up in quite the predicament. Response: I enjoyed the rhyming in this book. Connection: Great Read Aloud; fun rhyming for kids as well; have a discussion about helping out your mom

Funny story, picture look so colorful. In the story is about how smart on each of the 5 monkeys. They are all ust little kids. Wanted to help their mom to sell the old car. Finally, thecar sold to crocodies so their mom can buy new car for the family.

I took this book home along with the other Five Monkeys title in this list (Five Little Monkeys with Nothing to Do), but this one turns out not to use the group-mind element as consistently. The monkeys often act as a group, but not always. Interestingly, this book rhymes, while the other Five Monkeys book I read doesn¿t; I would have expected all the books in one series to be more similar to each other in style. This one has a more engaging plot than the other one, but the meter of the rhyming lines didn¿t always sound right to my ear.

We picked up this book from our local library. We love reading about the five little monkeys they are always up to something. And of course getting into a bit of trouble even though they mean well. With them washing the car, they do a really good job and at the end when they sell it for their mom how awesome is that! They find themselves to be in trouble but use their head on how to get out of it. Fun, colorful illustrations, a good read as to what is going to happen next with the monkeys!

My son is a big fan of the "5 Monkeys" series and he had to add this to his collection. This has been his "go to" bedtime story book lately and he really loves the story. The story is fun and the illustrations bright. This book keeps my sons attention from start to beginning.
