Overview

At work, at play, at home, in the White House.

The White House is a museum, the office of the chief executive, a gathering place for leaders and visitors from around the globe, and it is also a home for one special family—the First Family.

This book follows a day in the life of the Obama family: President Barack, First Lady Michelle, First Daughters Malia and Sasha, and even First Pup Bo. From moving in on inauguration day to making important decisions, hosting state dinners, planting a garden, exploring the historic house, and leading around the Secret Service, the First Family is very busy.

Deborah Hopkinson and AG Ford take young readers through an extraordinary ordinary day in the life of America's much-beloved First Family.

This is the 3rd book that I've purchased that's been illustrated by AG Ford. This guy is absolutely phenomenal. His skill-sets really bring to life the TRUE essence of the First Family. The Book has a compelling story line that AG Ford enhanced with every stroke of his artistic ability. Overall, the book is amazing and the illustrations are unmatched. WAY TO GO & KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

I rarely read children books, but this one was well worth the time invested to get a idea of the great reading material, and art work that's out there for our youth. I was very pleased with the quality of the art work, and the quality of the way the story was relayed to the youth along with website information for additional research. The art work gave you a visual that left you wanting to learn more about the first family , the Dog and the white house. Thumbs up to the Illustrator and the Writer. Great work.

The First Family is an excellent book to read to childre. This book gives interesting information about the White House and the everyday life of the First Family. Some interesting things to know is that each member of the family has their own secret name and the White House has secret passages. this family is a great example of a caring, loving, unified family.

Personal Response:I thought this was a great book. I actually learned a lot about the first family by reading this, and I'm sure that a lot of kids would feel the same way. I liked how this book made you feel almost like you knew Sasha and Malia. I would like to have this in my library. Classroom/Library Uses:My students love books like this. I have read them a lot of books about the White House, White House pets, President Obama, and former presidents. I know that this book would be a hit in my school library as a read aloud in conjunction with those other topics. I'm sure it would be a good resource in a Social Studies unit in a classroom.

I bought this book for my nieces and nephews this Christmas. They really enjoyed it and are now even inspired to write and illustrate children's books of their own. I think it's a great inspiration to see how the First Family was introduced to their new life in the White House. The story was well written and the illustrations were superb. What an enjoyable way for youth to learn about History!!

Saw this at B&N when looking for a birthday present, was intrigued by the beautiful picture on the front. I stood there and read the whole thing and knew this would be a great story to read with my kids. The book gives a great look into the life of the Obama's that you normally don't see. Our whole family has enjoyed it.

It's so nice to have an author and illustrator take some time to create a children's book to educate kids about such a historic first family. Good Job!
