You have an enemy . . . and he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t general or generic, not a one-size-fits-all. It’s specific. Personalized. Targeted.
So this book is your chance to strike back. With prayer. With a weapon that really works. Each chapter will guide you in crafting prayer strategies that hit the enemy where it hurts, letting him know you’re on to him and that you won’t back down. Because with every new strategy you build, you’re turning the fiercest battles of life into precise strikes against him and his handiwork, each one infused with the power of God’s Spirit.
New York Times bestselling author Priscilla Shirer, widely known for her international speaking, teaching, and writing ministries, brings her new role from the 2015 film War Room into the real lives of today’s women, addressing the topics that affect them most: renewing their passion, refocusing their identity, negotiating family strife, dealing with relentless regrets, navigating impossible schedules, succeeding against temptation, weathering their worst fears, uprooting bitterness, and more. Each chapter exposes the enemy’s cruel, crafty intentions in all kinds of these areas, then equips and encourages you to write out your own personalized prayer strategies on tear-out sheets you can post and pray over yourself and your loved ones on a regular basis.
Fervent is a hands-on, knees-down, don’t-give-up action guide to practical, purposeful praying.

God lead me to this book at the precise time it was needed in my journey. A time when I needed help and strength and power in prayer. It was easy to read and very applicable to the issues of a woman's life. I'm grateful the Holy Spirit lead me to this book.

Fervent by Priscilla Shirer is not a book on prayer theory it is about developing a plan for your specific issues. She even provides blank prayer cards at the back of the book to help with writing them out. Her goal is to help us learn how to pray specifically and strategically. She focuses on 10 areas/chapters; passion, focus, identity, family, past, fears, purity, pressures, hurts and relationships. In each chapter she shares “If I were your enemy” and a section on “Call to Prayer” that shares specific scriptures for the section. Looking for a great book on the strategies of battle worthy prayer for women? Something like industrial grade survival gear to face off against the enemy instead of taking on friendly fire, or being defeated in yet another daily spiritual battle? How many more times we will risk falling victim to the enemies schemes to cause division in our homes, families, marriages, relationships and just about every area of our life, while he simply seems to get better at it? If you are ready to get serious about prayer, free from whatever is keeping you held down and held back, wanting to reach our destiny and experience God's promises in our lives, than I would encourage you to pick up Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan for Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer by Priscilla Shirer. Inspired by the upcoming movie the War Room, Priscilla takes us deep into the heart of the very ploys that Satan designs us to fail in specific areas of our life and shows us exactly how he plans on doing that. It creates an eye opening look to what his plans are, what the symptoms look like, and how we can pray more boldly for victory each time an attack comes. She even designed tear out cards you can create to put in the place you pray most often so you can use that specific prayer when facing a particular attack in that area. As long as prayer remains an afterthought, no matter how badly we may want it, without the confidence, meaning, clarity, and vitality needed in our prayers, we simply waste years doing a whole lot of other things. Things that thoroughly exhaust us but ultimately don't work. We end up, for all our trying, missing the point on what God intended, missing the whole heart of what really matters. This book is designed to help you create, plan and pray specifically and strategically with precision in areas like passion, focus, identity, family, our past, our fears, our purity, pressures, hurts and relationships. It will teach you that when you pray about the places where we seriously suspect the enemy is at work - that is how we keep our prayers focused, not only on particular situations, but on biblical truths that are consistent with maintaining victory in the midst of them. I received Fervent by Priscilla Shirer compliments of Icon Media Group and B and H Publishing Group for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review aside from a free copy of this book, and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. Priscilla Shirer is not only a best-selling author, but she is also taking part in acting in the upcoming movie the War Room. This book is so great at helping you format specific and powerful prayers in certain areas in your life, because it is the one weapon that truly works in those spiritual areas of our life that are impacting us daily. For me, this was a must read because my prayer life could use a revitalizing and I got exactly that through my reading of this book. I would easily rate this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars in my opinion and looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out this month.

I actually took notes on each chapter and will be re-reading this. This is great for those who are seeking how to plug into the power of prayer and how to direct them. I believe that she hits on the essence not just for women, but for all Christians.

Just what I needed in my time of searching with key verses to pray at any time. Beautiful pictures of family in the good and hard times. Very encouraging words for being a mom, wife, and daughter of God.

I've been praying my whole life; rote, memorized, thankful, spontaneous. Lately, I have wondered why it felt more like a duty or obligation than a privilege. After reading this book, now I know. The author speaks straight to the matter and your heart. She acts as a friend and guide. I hope someday she will know that she changed my prayer life. I pray fervently and sincerely that this book finds its way into the hands and hearts of all who need it.

This book- about fervent, life-changing prayer- was so very beautiful! I had to stop highlighting parts of it, because it was becoming close to being the whole book! I seldom do rereads and I plan to read this again in the near future. The prayer ideas were very relatable and the Bible passages spoke to me. I feel by convicted by the chapter on forgiveness, especially. I have already ordered a physical copy for my bookshelf. * I received a digital copy of this book from a Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a must-read for any Christian woman. It goes through every area of your life and targets how and why the enemy attacks. Priscilla Shirer does a wonderful job of reminding you of the spiritual battle you are in and what is at stake, but also provides numerous Scripture passages that reveal the promises of God so that you walk into the spiritual battle standing firmly on faith. This book definitely helped me see the need to engage in prayer more often. I loved this and will recommend it to many ladies in my life.

Powerful book. Addresses multiple ways the devil attacks us and tries to keep us from being affective as a Christian. Shirer presents each strategy of the devil, gives real life examples, and then gives ways to combat this strategy. The entire book is about prayer and it's power against these strategies of the devil. Shirer uses tons of scripture to back her strategies against the devil. Fervent was eye opening to me. I never thought of some basic things as the work of the devil trying to keep me from intimacy with the Lord. Great read. Goes along great with her Armour of God study.

Page 1 of “Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan for Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer” spoke to me…actually it was page VII – the Table of Contents. Yep, right there lines three and four “Strategy 1: Your Passion, Getting it Back”. Those words screamed at me, touched me, reminded me…. “remember when?” Priscilla gives specific examples with specific solutions to igniting a passionate prayer life whether you want to “maintain it or regain it”. Fervent is a good place to start preparing your strategy for “fervent and effective prayer”. With the New Year comes the new resolutions. Let one of those resolutions be a new or renewed prayer life. To help you start the New Year off right, I am giving away one copy of Fervent. Just leave a comment and one winner will be randomly selected.

Broken. Disheveled. Discouraged. Barely clinging to hope. Those are the words that encapsulate where I found myself as I picked up Priscilla Shirer’s book, Fervent. I felt broken by the looming threat of marital dissolution. Earlier in 2015, my husband and I separated and I found myself contemplating divorce as the year neared its cyclic close. I looked in the mirror and I was emotionally and spiritually disheveled from the harsh beating inflicted by gusty winds of uncertainty and icy storms of confusion. Discouragement over the future lurked along my horizon and I was barely clinging to hope. I sat alone in my small, one bedroom apartment and, through tears, opened the pages of one of the most life changing books I’ve read. Ever. Immediately, I was incited against the dark forces that had held me captive for the last year. Things about myself that I had forgotten began to resurface in my memories. New words emerged. Called. Equipped. Armed. Empowered. Only moments into the pages, a shift began to occur in my thinking and suddenly, I felt a surge of strength. Of passion. Of purpose. Of anger. How dare the enemy aim to rob me of not only my identity in Christ, but also all of those things for which Christ died on my behalf. To hell with you, devil, became the new message ringing in my ears as I began to take captive every defeating and disheartening thought that had occupied my mind prior to opening the Spirit saturated pages of Shirer’s book. As the words took root in my heart, I began to see that this was no ordinary volume. It wasn’t written for the sweet child who prays innocently for a piece of candy after dinner. Neither was it addressed to the prideful Pharisee type who offers up prayers of gratitude that he’s not like others. It wasn’t even written to the one who already has a strong and faithful prayer life. No, it was written to the worn out, desperate woman who’s on the edge of the seat of despair. To the one who is about to give up. To her who is considering quitting. It was written to the defeated, the hopeless, and discouraged. It was written to me. So if that’s also you…if you’ve lost your fight, forgotten your position of victory, or feel your candle is about to burn out, allow me to recommend Priscilla Shirer’s Fervent. Reading it will leave you changed. Hungry for victory. Angry over the enemy’s lies. Fervent in prayer.

So You Won't Forget Author, Priscilla Shirer, had collected her grandmother, buckled her into the passenger seat, and embarked on a junk food run for French fries and vanilla milkshakes. Knowing that her grandmother was a faithful prayer warrior with a notebook full of specific requests and written prayers that she added to daily, Priscilla queried, “Why do you write down your prayers in a notebook like that?” She surreptitiously pressed the record button on her iPhone to catch the answer for posterity, certain that her grandmother’s words would be filled with the distilled wisdom of ninety-five years of godly living. It turns out that she was right, but she didn’t need the iPhone. After another fry and a long gulp of her shake, Priscilla’s grandmother opened her mouth and said four words, “So I won’t forget.” This is the essence of Fervent, a battle plan for waging the “serious, specific, and strategic” battle called prayer. We must not forget that our enemy is formidable, but the “weapons of our warfare are . . . mighty,” according to The Apostle Paul. Fervent‘s ten-point battle plan identifies the hot spots that can either become power-draining, life-long losing battles OR, through prayer, monuments to the powerful presence of God in a praying life. In every chapter, Priscilla reaches across the table and clasps hands with her reader, sharing how bitterness and lack of forgiveness throttled her own prayer life, how the pressure of urgency leads only to slave-living, and how moral compromise and shame from the past can be thrown off like a wet blanket because God does not live in the past. Fervent Is a Call to Prayer: Each chapter ends with practical prayer strategies and a treasury of scripture that gives wings to a believer’s desire to enter into a disciplined and fervent prayer life. Connect with Priscilla for additional encouragement in purposeful living through Going Beyond Ministries. Fervent Is a Practical Push: If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time, so Priscilla Shirer calls her readers to war, and then provides the strategy and the tools. Perforated cards in the back of the book can be removed for recording requests and reminders, keeping them visible and ready-to-engage. Like much of the Christian life, prayer is enhanced when it is practiced in a community that offers accountability and support. Think of it as an army and deploy all forces. After all, “victories don’t happen by accident.” This book was provided by B&H Publishing Group in exchange for my review.
