From the formless mass of chaos appeared the Great Trinity of Hinduism: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. But they were not invulnerable, and when their world was threatened by demons the gods turned not to their own power but to that of the Mother Goddess, in the fierce and vengeful form of Kali, the merciless destroyer. The Eternal Cycle recounts this and other tales form Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain mythology.

I read the book and found it offensive that writers keep refering to the religion as a 'cult'. Religions are 'faith',not cult. Pictures in the book were beautiful which is why I was attracted to it but I ended up returning it because of the insensitive tone of book.It is not worth my collection.
This is a wonderful book of the history of India and the details of the Hindu religion with some information on the influence of Bhuddism. It helps to put all of the world's religions in perspective.
