We have long radically underestimated our body's power to transform and restore our health. Pioneering physician scientist, Dr. William Li, empowers readers by showing them the evidence behind over 200 health-boosting foods that can starve cancer, reduce your risk of dementia, and beat dozens of avoidable diseases. This book isn't about what foods to avoid, but rather is a life-changing guide detailing the hundreds of healing foods you can add to your meals that support the body's defense systems, including:
  • Plums
  • Cinnamon
  • Sourdough breadRed wine and beer
  • Black Beans
  • San Marzano tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Cheeses like Jarlsberg, Camembert and cheddar

With Dr. Li's plan, the foods you already love can be optimized to activate your body's five natural health defense systems--Angiogenesis, Regeneration, Microbiome, DNA Protection, and Immunity--to fight cancer; diabetes; cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and autoimmune diseases; and other debilitating conditions.

I won't lie when I first received this book, I was overwhelmed by how much information is involved. It is definitely not the end-all dieting book or miracle health guide to curing any ailment that millions of us are looking for. However, when I sat down to finally read it, I found out it was an excellent companion to another book that I love that has already helped me eat better to live better called "The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution." This book, Eat To Beat Disease" is divided into three main parts: part one explains each of the body's natural defense systems, part two explains is on what to eat to beat diseases, and part three is on planning, choosing, and what to do with these foods, with something the author calls a 5 x 5 x 5 framework that the author has created that makes it easy to incorporate these foods. It also has a chapter on "Exceptional Foods" and "Sample Meal Guide and Recipes." With that said, if you are looking for information on what to eat to help our body's natural defense system this book should be one of the top ones you choose. However, if you are looking for a sensible way to lose weight, I have lost an incredible 12 pounds using it, and best of it provided me with the easiest ways to keep that way off since last Christmas, I highly recommend Chef Jai Scovers' "The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution." It is the only weight loss guide that I wish I had sooner. It is a must-have.
