WWE Smackdown star and self-proclaimed "Doctor of Thuganomics" John Cena makes his explosive action feature debut as John Triton, an injured U.S. Marine who returns home from duty after violating a commander's order, only to have his wife kidnapped by a ruthless criminal. Robert Patrick co-stars as the villainous Rome -- who is more than willing to kill if it means staying one step ahead of the law -- and Nip/Tuck star Kelly Carlson appears as the endangered object of the vengeful veteran's affections. With nothing left to lose and enough training to take down a small army, the hard-fighting Triton sets out to rescue his wife, and ensure that the psychotic Rome receives a painful taste of Semper Fi justice. Commercial veteran John Bonito takes the rein for his feature directorial debut.

First of all, John Cena may be "or at least look like" a complete 'roid fiend but has absolutely no acting muscle. "Honestly, how many Marines do you see look like him even in government promotional films". As a result his character doesn't gain much sympathy and so this movie becomes very boring quickly. Second, the plot is all too typical and tired. The only somewhat redeeming quality about the film is the villain who played well in Terminator 2. Overall not much is to be expected due to the fact that no huge stars carry the movie, and it runs just barely over an hour and a half of pure action.

I really hope the Military didn’t support this movie considering how things are going over there in order to recruit more bodies. If so that was a poor attempt. After watching this movie it left me quite speechless. War is entirely different, and should not be made glamorous for recruiting purposes. "The Marine" is a very simple film with a few minor twists here and there. In the tradition of The Rock, John Cena has begun a movie career after gaining notoriety as a wrestler. Both wrestlers/actors are muscle bound former college football players. Whereas The Rock has now proven he can act in a variety of roles, Cena has just proven that he can do action. His role in “The Marine” is evidence that he may very well be successful in films, but he will need to find better material than this. The directing here is nothing special, but seeing this is John Bonito's first feature, I have nothing to support my cause as I have nothing more to base it on, but he is able to deliver a film that is very easy and even if Bonito got a little explosion happy. The plot however, is pointless. Throughout this movie these imbecile thieves call attention to themselves every chance they get. After robbing a jewelry store, they don’t just stroll away as no one outside knows what they did. They blow up a cop car. Why? I have no idea. One member of the group is prone to telling sad stories of his youth. Too often the camera lingers on the bad guys and then quickly gives us a shot of Cena running. Sure, Patrick is a bigger movie star than Cena, but this is Cena’s movie. I really did not care about the bad guys other than how Cena is going to kick their butt. I will say that Cena has the build and look of an action hero in the grain of Jean-Claude Van Damme. He fits right in with the 'unstoppable 80's action hero mold.' He is 90% muscle and 10% charm. He has few lines of dialogue but does well enough with what he has. Robert Patrick hammed it up, but seemed to relish playing a wise-cracking psychotic murderer. No one else is worth mentioning, as it seems paychecks were just collected. Cena, who is also a rapper, had also been wearing military attire at his matches. No doubt he is doing so for publicity sake of this movie, which celebrates Marines as heroes which is great but nothing he can do is going to generate enough interest to make “The Marine” a success.

The Marine (Unrated Edition) DVD ~ John Cena Here is your review the way it will appear: ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------- For the first half hour of this movie the viewer may get the idea that the script Michelle Gallagher and Alan B. McElroy is just awful (with good perception!), but as the film's story evolves the idea that this may just be a National Lampoon parody of action flicks - and if that is the case, it is truly a funny bit of entertainment - for a while. Then it becomes obvious that the minimal storyline (ex-Marine's wife is abducted by diamond thieves and Marine elects to leave his one day 'security job' and take the initiative to capture his wife and strike down the bad guys in the swamps of North Carolina) is really just a matrix for staging as many pyrotechniques explosions as possible. It does get tedious. The 'star' of this noisy, 'Unrated-for-destructive-violence' film is one John Cena, another wrestler from WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) being promoted by the director John Bonito to follow the path of The Rock: the difference is The Rock has done some classy acting and a range of roles that call for much more than flexing whereas Cena seems completely like a fish out of water who has yet to take a class in acting basics. John Cena does have a splendid physique and perhaps that should have been more on camera. Instead his 'John Triton' character, despite his tremendous physical advantages, gets beaten up by some pretty small and older guys, making us wonder why he has all that bulk and no fighting ability. The cast is good to adequate and once you realize this film is a parody, they seem even better delivering the corny lines they are given. Among the crew are Robert Patrick as Rome (the chief bad guy), Kelly Carlson as John's wife, Anthony Ray Parker as the hilarious 'token black' bad guy (he truly has comedic talent), hunkies Manu Bennett and Frank Carlopio for eye candy, Abigail Bianca, Jerome Ehlers, Damon Gibson, and Drew Powell as the crew in flight. They are a likeable bunch of criminals but oh can they blow things up! For the action film addicts only. Grady Harp

I love this movie! It's about a man who will stop at nothing to save his wife from some dangerous jewel theives after she's kidnapped. Lots of action! Comic relief! Great movie all around! Plus, if you absolutely think John Cena is HOT...then you'll enjoy the scene with him in his boxers! Mmmmmm! What woman doesn't want to be saved by her extremely handsome husband?!

Oh boy, another "action" movie staring a professional wrestler. All goes to prove what's been said for decades: pro wrestling is FAKE. Save your money and buy something more realistic like any history channel show on the marines or buy the DVD Patton.

I, BEING A MARINE, CAN RELATE TO THIS SITUATION. HONOR and COMMITMENT are what this action packed video is about. Any woman would be honored to have her warrior like John Tritton (rank unknown). It shows some bruttal South Carolina landscape, like near Paris Island.
