Overview

A classic film from the Coen brothers, Raising Arizona features an excellent DVD transfer but not much more. Top cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld, who later directed Get Shorty and Wild Wild West, photographed this film and its transfer would make him proud. The widescreen 1:85 sparkles with color saturation and even the smallest background detail stands out to enhance the humor. Joel and Ethan Coen are known for making great quirky films and for never including commentary or interviews on their discs. They stay true to form here. Extras-wise, the disc doesn't offer much, except for a theatrical trailer, three TV spots, and trailers for their other films, Miller's Crossing and Barton Fink. Dolby Surround is available in English and French languages. Since the film has such a fanatical following, even without extras the awesome transfer will be enough for many fans to add this to their collection.

25 years after it came out, I finally saw RAISING ARIZONA with my son and we had a blast. The dark humor in this movie, the funny manner of language along with the slapstick makes this a very funny movie with two great actors, Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter. My son especially like the part when Hi's friends leave Nathan Jr behind in the middle of the road. We then saw the movie again the next night and laugh even harder. The movie has many memorable moments and I would recommend that you make this movie part of your collection. You cant go wrong with this one if you like twisted humor.

This movie never fails me after a good day or a bad day at work. Just pop it in and you will get a belly-laugh and a sight gag at almost any portion of the movie. From Tex getting whacked in the face with a 2 by 6, or Hi trying to coral the quints, or ''you gimme that baby yew warthog frum hell,'' or ''son, yew got a panty on yor haid!'' The price of the DVD is paid for on the basis of all the times in your life you will utter John Goodman's rendition of ''So many social engagements... So little time.''

Perfect casting. Cage & Hunter should work together more often. The story line is great too. Extremely funny if you like quirky, slightly dark comedy with masterful language use. One of my favorite characters is John Goodman's bumbling thief.
