Two of Marlon Brando's most iconic roles, and an amusing latter-day comic turn, are collected on this three-disc set. The Marlon Brando DVD Collection features the films On the Waterfront, The Wild One, and The Freshman. On the Waterfront and The Wild One have both been transferred to disc in their original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, while The Freshman has been given two transfers -- a letterboxed version in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 (also enhanced for 16 x 9 playback) and a pan-and-scan transfer in 1.33:1. The audio for The Wild One and On the Waterfront has been mastered in Dolby Digital Mono; in addition to the original English-language soundtracks, they both include alternate tracks dubbed in French. The Wild One features optional subtitles in English and French, while On the Waterfront also adds subtitles in Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai. The audio for The Freshman, meanwhile, is mastered in Dolby Digital Surround, with tracks in English, Spanish, and French, and subtitles in the same three languages. On the Waterfront includes a bonus commentary track with critic Richard Schickel and Jeff Young, who has written a biography of the film's director, Elia Kazan. Among the other extras are cast and crew filmographies, a gallery of still photos, a collection of trailers, and an interview with Kazan. Trailers are the only bonus items on the discs for The Wild One and The Freshman.
