Robert Louis Stevenson's story is adapted for modern theater in 2001's Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical starring David Hasselhoff in the leading dual role. This video is a recording of an actual performance at Plymouth Theatre on Broadway, shot with several high definition video cameras from various angles. Hasselhoff portrays both the genius Dr. Jekyll and the notorious Mr. Hyde from the original Stevenson tale, as two sides of a single human psyche playing out encounters with goodness versus evil in the midst of love and mental confusion. This adaptation incorporates a pop twist on the musical numbers, where Hasselhoff is afforded the opportunity to incorporate his experience as a television actor with his vocal recording background.

When i first heard what jekyll and hyde was about i thought it was a bit far fetched, but once i saw this version of it i coulndnt wait to be a part of it!! I played the role of Lucy Harris and i found it the most challenging shows i have ever done. david hasselhoff plays the part of Jekyll and Hyde amazingly, nobody actually realsises how much effort it takes to pull of a performance like that it was brilliant!!! I would definatly recommend it to anyone who is indecisive about watching it!

What a debicle of utter musical theatre mediocrity... Charmless, boring, and the one show that honestly takes itself too seriosly, Jekyll and Hyde underwent a series of rewrites in the early nineties before making its debut on Broadway in 1997. However, J&H was hardly aged to perfection. In fact, it slips on the way up and hits every stair on the way down. First, the book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse...Monotonous. Heavy, portrays NO depth of the characters beyond what is immediately known. Jekyll struggles with good and evil, being Hyde. The dialogue, even the whole show for that matter, could only be effectively conveyed unless it was all played up as pure CAMP! The book hardly provides for any real laughs except for a few lines of dry, British wit. Oh, ho ho... The score, by Frank Wildhorn and Kim Scharnberg, the worst, as it lazily lets the lyrics merely float over the overlywrought pangings of the music. What rot. Jekyll and Lucy launch into long, drawn out 10 minute arias about the same themes and ideas. The production itself is still flawed, far too clean and sanitized, morally and visually. Give me Sweeney Todd, a REAL tale of revenge, or hell, even Phantom of the Opera over this piece of musical refuse! It hardly suprises me that the only people who seem to remotely enjoy this show are younger aspiring actors and actresses who enjoy their theatre fed to them through tubes, meaning, subtext, score, all nicely pureed in a blender and pumped to their stomachs! OH, then there's David Hasselhoff....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Jekyll and Hyde...Puke!

So, my school's marching band show is based off this musical, and I must say, after watching it, I'm proud to be promoting its music! The acting has so much energy even if it isn't be absolute best. David does a superb job in Confrontation and the entire cast tells the story in an outstanding manner.

Though I dont much like this musical I think David Hasselhoff has to be one of the worst choices for Jekyll/Hyde that I have seen. Now if you truly want to hear the role of Jekyll/Hyde being sung correctly go buy the original broadway cast album with Robert Cuciolli, or better yet with an even better Jekyll/Hyde, buy the concept cast with Anthony Warlow, who has a stunning voice and pretty much surpasses anyone in that role. Listen to the definitive Jekyll/Hyde and get the concept cast. I even think Colleen Saxton was awful...if your going to cast a part, cast an actress with the CORRECT range!

Why yes, ladies and gentlemen. He sure can sing. All the performances are steller and the music is what makes the show good.

I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this show! I had the honor of seeing it when it was performed live in Michigan. The only reason I give it four stars is DH could've done a little better job acting wise. Plus on that note, he lacked one thing practically all the other cast members had...a British accent! Singing-wise, you could tell he was lacking a little bit, but boy, you gotta give the guy credit for doing what is a tremendously physical role, vocally and acting. Awesome show! Still wish it was on Broadway! It deserves to be there!

I absolutly love David in this. He has truley come a long way from the beach and the talking car. I think he should just leave tv completely and stick to broadway. He has such a great voice and Andrea has a beautiful voice. If I could I would listen to this music all day long.

Davie is my favorite actor take it from a girl who sees him shirtless each day yep I'm a Baywatch fan I used to like Knight Rider but it's not my favorite anymore because Mitch is all I need to be my tiger on the bed if you know what I mean? My favorite songs are 'Dangerous Game' 'Good and Evil' 'Confrontation' why I like them well Dangerous Game is one of my faves because David and Colleen are so in the balance of the melody now Good and Evil well Colleen sings so pretty I wish I could sing like her well sometimes I do now as for Confrontation it's like the good and evil is switching back and forth in Davie's soul I just love these guys and I hope they'll make a version of it.

I absolutely adore broadway musicals and 'Jekyll and Hyde' became a favorite as soon as I heard the concept CD with Linda Eder and Colm Wilkinson. When I heard 'Confrontation' on the Original Broadway Cast recording I was astounded by Robert Cuccioli's performance and ability to make his voice sound like it came from two different people. Here is where my one complaint comes in. The cast performs beautifully, 'In His Eyes' is a highlight for me and I love 'Facade' and 'Murder, Murder'. But, David Hasselhoff lacks the vocal power that other artists (Robert Cuccioli, Brian Noonan) display while singing 'This is the Moment' and 'Confrontation'. Otherwise, I would have rated it five stars without hesitation! Another note: Andrea Rivette and Colleen Sexton are great as Emma and Lucy.

Jekyll and Hyde is a good show for a night of entertainment. The lyrics are not Leslie Bricusse's best work at all: they are thin and campy, but they get the job done. The musical score is good, but it does lack variety (mostly slow ballads or recitative. The music is very listen-able. I can listen to the soundtrack a thousand times and not grow bored of it, but thats more because of the talent of Robert Cuccioli and Linda Eder. As far as the staging of the production of the movie, I find it boring and I don't like where the songs are placed in this particular production. David Hasslehoff is a horrific actor and singer. His acting is stiff and unbelievable. Compare him to any other actor who has played the role and he is simply awful. However, Coleen Sexton does a beautiful job as Lucy. The show on a whole: Easy listening, fun to watch, but it's not one for the Musical Theatre history books.

Well, finally this show made it on DVD! I have to admit that I like the german version of the show better, probably because I have only see te german show live, which is totally different from the Broadway version. But I was VERY happy that the producers decided to publish the actual show on DVD. It is a good show, however the directing is often very flat and 'in your face'. When I heard the DVD would feature David Hasselhof in the title role, I was shocked to say the least. Appearantly they cast him in order to attract a bigger audience. And thogh he's doing a good job, he sometimes lacks a bit in the acting, and his voice isn't up to the role sometimes. But I have to give him credit here. It is a very demanding role, and having someone wthout a proper training (I guess) doing it is hard to understand. He just cannot compete to all other Jekylls I've heard and seen so far. But he's doing a good job, as do all the other cast members, who are very good. Sadly, the show isn't playing anymore on Broadway, so this is the chance to get as close to a live experience as possible. Defintely worth buying!

This musical is the best musical ever. David Hasselhoff portrays his characters with so much heart that it seems like he is actually living like them day after day. The songs are fantastic. ''Good & Evil'' is one of my favorites. Lucy sings very beautifully in all her songs. My other favorite is ''Dangerous Game''. Hyde and Lucy are so well-balanced in the song. I love to sing along with it. Even though I love all the songs, ''Dangerous Game'' is my favorite. I hope David hasselhoff will work on another musical, because his voice is so beautiful. He has a great stage presence and a great chemistry with the cast. This is a musical that is definitly worth seeing! Good work cast and crew of Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical(2001)!
