John Irvin's big-screen adaptation of Peter Straub's horror novel Ghost Story arrives on DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but this film has never looked better on home video.

This movie due to its spooky production design (scary little town), true enough story line (ghost stories are always great if people listening, allow themselves to get hooked in), musical score (becomes a character in itself)and acting (by great legends and wonderful newcomers, at the time anyway)that never quite lets you relax for fear of what they (and you) will see/hear/deal with next. For those of you who will say, 'The book was better' I say, they always are. However, this moive is perfect for a horror/thriller movie night when you need to pick a movie from this genre that will try and scare everyone. It's not a 'slasher' pix. Those are great too but this is a thriller with a love story for all ages. (all ages meaning 'all time' this movie is rated R for a little kids here)So shut off the phone, lock the door, check under the bed and settle in for a Ghost Story that (if you allow it too)will scare the heck out of you. Then when you least expect, over the following weeks, months, years this movie will creep back into your mind (when you're alone) and again...SCARE THE HECK OUT OF YOU!! I first saw it in the theater in the middle 80's and it remains to this day, a movie I can't watch alone. Enjoy.

when I read the book, I kept looking over my shoulder. The movie certainly did the book proud. I can honestly say they both scared the pants off me! I loved the winter scenes, and the actors portrayed their guilt quite well. As for the revenge, well, they do say that revenge is best served up cold!

Ghost Story is one of the best, and one of the truly spooky movies of all time. Great acting if you are a lover of this kind of movie you won't be disappointed.
