Michael Bay (The Rock) directed this science fiction action thriller in the When Worlds Collide tradition. After astronomy students discover a comet-asteroid collision, an asteroid fragment "the size of the Super Dome" threatens. It's destroyed by a secret USA defense in space, but a large chunk veers off toward Singapore. With another asteroid "the size of Texas" en route, a plan is devised to send oil drillers to land on the asteroid and drop a nuclear device down a 1000-foot shaft, a scheme calculated to crack the asteroid into two halves, saving Earth. NASA begins a crash program to train beer-besotted oil roughnecks for the mission. During a stopover to refuel at the Mir Station, the space station is accidentally destroyed, so a Russian cosmonaut also joins the team. Produced by Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer (Con Air), and Gale Anne Hurd (The Relic, The Abyss).

This movie is a lot of fun. It's a thrill ride, with realistic characters. Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Live Tyler, and Billy Bob Thornton make up the main characters. Bruce's character, Harry Stamper, is the most skilled driller on Earth. Ben Affleck's character, AJ, was Harry's 2nd in command. AJ was also engaged Harry's daughter - Grace. . Harry's team had successfully pulled off drilling jobs that had been considered impossible. They're an assortment of Rough Necks. Crude and individual men, united only by there loyalty to each other. To stop the asteroid, NASA needed Harry's help. He picked the best of his people to operate the drills. The FBI was sent to collect them, with great difficulty. They were an obstinate lot. Only when they were actually brought to Harry did they start cooperating. Police,FBI, and National Security - They couldn't have cared less. Harry was their employer, leader, and brother. Things only got real for them, when they saw Harry needed them. 2 shuttles were sent to the asteroid, each with the necessary equipment. One was lead by Harry, the other by AJ. Harry's shuttle had a rough landing, AJ's crashed completely. AJ's team had to escape the from the shuttle wreckage. Then had to drive nearly 30 miles across the asteroid. That journey included using the asteroids low gravity, to jump over a massive canyon. Harry's team was forced to drill in an area with high iron content. Drilling through that burned out his drill before he drilled deep enough. Then to everyone's delight the AJ's team arrived, bringing their own drill with them. Together Harry and AJ successfully drilled to the required depth. The climax is always thrilling. Harry stays behind to blow the asteroid. He sacrifices himself for the others and for Grace. The asteroid is blown in half, the 2 pieces miss the Planet. Then the crews return to Earth. The crews reunite with the loved ones and are celebrated across the world. The end credits have pictures of AJ and Grace's wedding.

Armageddon is a movie of fate with a dash of humor thrown in. Armageddon is a movie about an astroid coming to hit Earth. A group of people are sent to stop it and what a bunch they are. They made me laugh because every person has his own special personality. This movie is a very serious movie, but the humor keeps it from being too serious. I believe that Armageddon is a great movie and one that many people would enjoy.

This movie flat out ROCKS. There were so many special moments, like when the one overweight guy drilled wrong, or when bruce was shooting at ben. Its those kind of moments that make you really think about life in general. Cuz if Bruce would have shot Ben, then Ben would not have been able to come to the rescue at the end. So the moral here is to value everyone around you, cuz you never know when a big rock will hit the earth. This movie had a lot of moments like that. I am an avid rock collector, but after seeing this, i have put all my collected rocks in my driveway

This movie has a really cool plot which even has Billy-bob Thorton. Unfortunately the only problem was Ben Affleck was in it too.

It starts out rocky but everything falls in line from then on. It's an optimistic movie before 9/11 when America was still respected and revered and Bruce Willis's had some stars in it, all puns intended. It was an enjoyable movie but one that if it ever happened we'd be screwed.

Having read one other review of this movie, I find myself in disagreement. It was an exciting movie, had a number of truly poignant moments, a few scenes that were rather funny (Willis going after his daughter's boyfriend on the oil rig) and many exciting situations. I disagree with the assessment that ''it could never happen''. Given the vastness of our universe and the huge amounts of natural space debris, it is amazing that it has not happened to this point. A few near misses and a few times that smaller asteroids have hit the earth are evidence that it could happen. Loved the movie.
