Drawings After the Codices Madrid of Leonardo Da Vinci

Drawings After the Codices Madrid of Leonardo Da Vinci

Hardcover(German Edition)

The subject of this extraordinarily produced volume is a series of 96 drawings, Codices Madrid, which German artist Joseph Beuys created in response to two sketchbooks by Leonardo da Vinci rediscovered in the 1960s and published in facsimile in 1975. Beuys selected these drawings as well as several others for an artists' multiple, published in the form of a notebook. This is one of the very few groups drawings assembled by Beuys into a large-scale work, and is thus related to other "blocks" of the artist's work. This series elucidates Beuys' commitment to effect a marriage between art and science referencing Leonardo's Codices Madrid, which for Beuys embodied "the unification of art and natural science."
