Acorn books plant a love of reading and help readers grow!

When Dragon finds a stray cat in his yard, he brings it inside to escape the cold. He likes living with his new feline friend, but Dragon soon realizes that he doesn't know how to take care of it. He doesn't know how to train the cat, what to feed the cat, and what to do about all the yellow puddles the cat leaves behind! Using his trademark humor and heart, Dav Pilkey illustrates the highs and lows of having a new pet in this tender story about care and responsibility.

This Acorn edition contains brand-new bonus content, including story prompts and how-to-draw pages!

About the Author

As a child, Dav Pilkey was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hall every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories, so he spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books. In the second grade, Dav Pilkey created a comic book about a superhero named Captain Underpants. His teacher ripped it up and told him he couldn’t spend the rest of his life making silly books. Fortunately, Dav was not a very good listener. Dav has gone on to create award-winning and bestselling books for children. His Captain Underpants series has more than 80 million copies in print worldwide and has been translated into more than 28 languages. In 2017, DreamWorks Animation brought the character to the silver screen in the feature film adaptation Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, and Netflix is now streaming The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants TV show. Dav’s latest creation, Dog Man, continues to be a #1 New York Times bestselling series with more than 23 million copies in print worldwide and translations available in more than 27 languages. Dav is also the creator of the Dragon series, the Dumb Bunnies series, Dog Breath, and The Paperboy, which is a Caldecott Honor Book. Dav lives in the Pacific Northwest with his wife.

Dav manages to write books that are funny for kids and also funny for the adults reading them out loud. This is one of my favorite books and my kids (age 4 & 7) also love it.

My two-year-old granddaughter loves this book. She has almost memorized the entire story. She begs for it and I enjoy reading it - a double bonus. I am going to buy all the dragon books by Pilkey.

I liked this book because everything Dragon does is very funny. He sure didn't know what cats eat!

Not only is this book easy for a beginning reader to read - it is also a very fun story! The illustrations are adorable and make it even more fun. I am a nanny and have no children of my own but I do plan on buying the book for my own collection.

I read this book once and now my son wants it read every night before bed. Our favorite chapter is three when Dragon learns the hard way how to care for his pet PU! My son's favorite part is Dragon's pet using the toilet. The 'Dragon' books are great for a first grade reader, I especially like them because it makes reading fun and the humor is for every age.

My grandchildren love the series. The stories keep their attention and they can't wait to see how each one turns out. This story shows the mishaps you may have when "a pet owns you". Dragon takes good care of his "Cat". Lovely story with a funny ending.

If you're kids have mastered the early books, but don't quite have the focus to read a young adult book, this is an excellent Tweener for them. It has a table of contents, and breaks down the story into separate chapters. It is a very charming and funny book as well. Dav Pilkey is a great author. We were introduced to him last year, when our kids starting reading the Hallow Weiner. His books are wonderful.
