After a long afternoon of playing outside, Caleb was worn out and ready for bed.
"Caleb!" his mother called. "Let's put on our pajamas and say our prayers."
Caleb climbed onto the bed beside his mother and reached high in the air, popping his head through the hole of his favorite pjs.
Feeling sleepy, Caleb leaned on his mother's shoulder and asked, "Mommy, why do we say prayers?"
She smiled gently and cradled Caleb in her arms. "What a question to ask," she said. "Well, we say our prayers so God can hear us when we talk to Him."
"Mommy, does God have ears?" Caleb asked with a puzzled look.
"What do you think?"
Caleb thought very hard for a moment and then asked aloud,
"Does God have ears?
Can He hear me when I pray?
Does He hear the things I say?
"Does God have eyes?
Can He see when I've been bad?
Does He cry too when I am sad?
"Does God have a nose?
Can He smell a pretty rose?
Or Mommy's cookies, do you suppose?
"Does God have a mouth?
Can He tell me what to do?
Does He speak, whisper, and even shout too?
"Does God have hands?
Can He reach out and hold me tight, like Daddy does when I'm full of fright?
