Overview

Juliette and Warner’s story continues in the thrilling fifth installment of Tahereh Mafi’s New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series.

Juliette Ferrars isn’t who she thinks she is.

Nothing in her world is what it seemed. She thought she’d finally defeated the Reestablishment. She thought she’d finally taken control of her life, her power, and her pain. But Juliette has only just begun to unravel a lifetime of lies, and she finds herself faced with a familiar choice:

Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

This time, she’s not alone. Stronger, braver, and more resilient than ever, Juliette will fight for life and love with her friends by her side—but first, she has to survive the war being waged against her mind:

She has to remember who she was.

Narrated by Juliette, Warner, and Kenji Kishimoto, this gripping novel perfectly sets the stage for the highly anticipated forthcoming conclusion to the Shatter Me series.

Another solid read(: shorter than I was hoping for (208 pages) I read it just this morning. Still love this story line. I waited over a year for this book I will no doubt be purchasing and impatiently waiting for the next(:

I couldn’t have dreamed of a better written storyline! This book is by far my favorite in the series! I need more like 5 seconds ago!!!

Maybe it's because I read the first 3 books so long ago but...this might be my favorite in the series. I fell in love with shatter me when I was a depressed pre teen and the way juliette was feeling resonated with me. I've gotten to grow as juliette has grown and I love the way the second part of this series is going. I will agree only a little of this book was entirely necessary to the plot. But the rest was definitely entertaining. And that's the point of reading. It most of the book was very fluffy and I loved it. That juliette and Warner kept falling in love and messing with their parents plans was so funny and adorable to me. The dynamic between Kenji and Warner and really feeling the bond between Kenji and juliette was so so nice. I loved it. Even the really super sad parts about juliette's sister. I hope they find a way to help her. The only thing i didnt like was that juliette's name was changed to ella. But i understand why.

I loved this book! It changes views between Juliette, Kenji, and Warner which keeps it very interesting. I love how Kenji's view was added in. I can't wait for the next one!

This book definitely lived up to my expectations! It was fast paced, and I flew through it. It felt short because I read it so quickly. I can’t say much about the plot without giving away spoilers for this book or the other ones. This one had more of a scientific theme, with time spent in laboratories with medical tests and operations being conducted. There were some horrifying science experiments being conducted, including one on a newly discovered character, Emmaline. That one was disturbing and difficult to read. As I was reading this book, I kept thinking of the first book in the series, Shatter Me, and how much has changed since then. Juliette and Warner have grown so much throughout the series. There have also been lots of new characters introduced, including some new ones in this book. There were some parts of this book that echoed the first one, with some characters being kept in a prison/asylum, like how Juliette was imprisoned in Shatter Me. Now that I’m caught up on the series, I’ll have to wait a long time for the next one.

Plot: Shatter Me has been one of my favourite series for as long as I can remember, but this might be my least favourite. For some reason, Kenji is a fan favourite, so he got a big POV for a good portion of this book. Reading his perspective just felt overdone and like it was pandering to the fans, but I found myself skimming his parts just to find the 1-2 pages of Warner or Juliette (I mean Ella). Even the parts with Warner and Juliette seemed disappointing though. There was very little action and when there was action it went so fast I could feel myself getting hyped up about it. And it was always the kind of action where I never felt like the characters were in danger. Characters: Juliette/Ella: I get the idea behind the name change, really, but Juliette is such a beautiful name and basically erasing that and throwing a generic name like Ella (sorry to the Ellas out there) into the mix just makes me kind of sad. It’s like all that history of the first three books is just gone or it gives me a whole new perspective on it that I don’t like. I used to love the first three books and now I feel like everything in them was a lie. Warner: Sweet boy. After Ignite Me his character started going downhill. Now he’s the kind of character where his only purpose is to argue with other characters, come off as the I-never-had-a-good-childhood-and-now-I-don’t-know-pop-culture character, and serve as Juliella’s (I’m using that as a coping mechanism) protector/worry about her all the time. It makes me sad. I still love him and I think he had some great character development in this book regarding his relationship with his father and learning about his past with Juliella, but I can’t help but feel like a part of that character I loved is missing. Kenji: Y’all already know how I feel about this boy. As far as I’m concerned, he’s there for comic relief and to be a friend to Juliella but other than that I can’t figure out why he is so overhyped. I can understand a small POV to get the perspective of the sector since Juliella and Warner weren’t available to come to the phone, but he had some thick chapters. Overall: There were some good parts to this. I particularly liked Juliella’s POV when she was being held, because it felt so intense and raw. I’m at that point where I kind of wish they just hadn’t come out with three more books and just left it at Ignite Me. Restore Me was okay, but now I’m just not in it anymore. This doesn’t even feel like the same series. And even though I love Warner and Juli…Ella together, their relationship just seemed off-kilter and awkward in this book. Of course, that won’t stop me from reading the last book and it won’t stop me from preordering it and reading it as soon as I get it, but I already feel the disappointment on the horizon. I just hope it has the same satisfactory end as Ignite Me.

I love this series. However I feel gypped. I’ve been waiting for this book for a year and it’s only 208 pages! I feel like the author is just trying to drag out the series and get as much money as she can for each book. I get that it’s a business, but then charge less for the books that are “short” stories.

Another great book in the series. It brought a whole new element to her story and answered a lot of questions.

There are moments throughout this novel where readers feel the need to scream or punch something. There are moments of pure hate to certain characters. And there are moments of love, compashion, and joy. If you have stayed with our beloved characters through the entire series, this most recent novel is something of other worlds. In simple terms, an incredible, astounding, and wonderfully written novel. Crafted with the many unexpected twist and turns, this author spins a tale of wondrous beauty, drama, and death defying adventure. This series will go down in history, of that I am certain.
