DEATH OF A CAD: A Hamish Macbeth Mystery
When Priscilla Halburton-Smythe brings her London playwright fiancé home to Lochdubh, everybody in town is delighted . . . except for love-smitten Constable Hamish Macbeth. Yet his affairs of the heart will have to wait. Vile, boorish Captain Bartlett, one of the guests at Priscilla's engagement party, has just been found murdered-shot while on a grouse hunt. Now with many titled party guests as the prime suspects, each with a reason for snuffing out the despicable captain, Hamish must smooth ruffled feathers as he investigates the case. When the hidden culprit strikes again, Hamish will find himself trying to save Priscilla from a miserable marriage-and catch a killer before he flies the coop.

I am big on Hamish Macbeth and this was a good mystery with much deeper character development  than some of the early books in this series.  I look forward to more of am. AC. Beaton mysteries in the future.!

Second book in Hamish Macbeth series. Delightful characters and setting. Ms. Porter's accent is sometimes more Swedish than Scottish, but otherwise well done. I enjoyed the story of Hamish and his pursuit of the fair Priscilla while seeking the murderer of the lusty villian.

Another series I've started in the middle. *Sigh* LOL I'm certain that the rest of you probably know Hamish MacBeth already, but this was my first introduction to him. A tall, lanky Scottish constable, Hamish is in love with Priscilla Halburton-Smythe, the daughter of a member of the local gentry. Since Hamish is completely unsuitable for Priscilla, he has been content to admire and love her from afar. But when she arrives home from London with her new playwright fiancé, Henry Withering, her parents hold an engagement party in her honor, inviting friends and acquaintances to spend several days in the country and do a little grouse hunting while they are at it. When one of the party is found murdered early one morning, the local police (and our intrepid constable) are on the case to discover the culprit.A nice little book with comfy characters and I'll be reading more of them, I'm sure. I have to say, though, that I like Agatha Raisin a bit better.

No car chases, no blood, no shooting. A cozy as comforting and enjoyable as a cuppa tea.

I really enjoyed reading this one. Hamish was really good and this time took credit for his work. Which I feel is about time.
