Being from Boston myself, I was interested in reading this book as it is set in Boston and written by a local author who also has been in police work for over 20 years. This I had to read! Already a fan of Dennis Lehanes, I began this read skeptical. The main character is Jack Kelly, a former Police Officer turned Private Investigator. The story opens fast and stays interesting. Loved the Boston setting. The characters 'speak' as if you are there in the room with them. The laughs are natural and some of the best laughs come at the least expected times. [as all good laughs do!] Jack Kelly seems like someone you could know in real life, a believeable hero. Anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery would enjoy this book. I have read in a local paper that he has already written a follow-up titled, SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD which again features Jack Kelly. This would be a character I'd lilke to see on film. Nothing works better than comical quips from a handsome detective involved in the grusome business of murder! Johnny Barnes can obviously write and I eagarly await his next book.
