I love her in Hallmark movies and now her books. It is nice to see a good Christian role model for the 30 and beyond group .
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Candace Cameron Bure's experience on "Dancing With the Stars." I seldom watch the show because of the drama involved with the judges, voter status, skimpy costumes, and so on. But it was great to read about her journey through the season. "Dancing Through Life" brings out the substance instead of all of the media hype. I am so impressed with Bure's knowledge and application of Biblical scripture in her life and her writing. It really hit home with me how critical this is for her and how it should be for all of us. She has set a very high standard of ethics and integrity and gives us such a great example of how to live, how to remain sane in such a tumultuous world. It was also delightful to read some of the stories of her childhood and also present family life. In "Dancing With the Stars" we see the importance of relationships with God, family and friends. I will be looking for the other books Bure has authored.
I have all 3 of Candaces' books, but this one is proving to be my favorite. There are so many areas of this book that resonate with where I am at in my life right now. From having a bigger than expected platform to live my truth to acting with kindness (especially in this world of social media). From dealing with severe stress & anxiety (to the point of completely blanking out & forgetting what you're supposed to be doing in the moment) to realizing there's someone out there who always has our back ("I've got you. It's ok. Right leg. Left leg. Stretch. Turn around. I've got you. It's ok. Love you. Love you. Love you. We're gonna make it. We're gonna make it.") This book has a little something for everyone. Candace, you've knocked it out of the park with this one!!!
Enjoyed reading this book! I was so impressed with the way Candace can relate to all of us at different levels and tie scripture in to help us understand that, though people watch us, our journey is ultimately between ourselves and God. Engaging stories about her time on the Dancing with the Stars show will keep you turning the pages with an increasing admiration for what it takes to stand firm for your beliefs in our culture today and what a good example of that looks like. Highly recommend this book!
I have a rather healthy movie collection. My favorite ones are the extended director's-cut, complete with hours and hours of behind-the-scenes footage. There's something about getting the inside scoop from those who participated in the film. It adds depth and gives me a deeper appreciation for their hard work. Reading Dancing Through Life (DTL) not only gives you an exclusive behind the scenes look at Bure's experience on Dancing with the Stars(DWTS), but a glimpse into Bure's authentic heart for God. That being said, I did not get to watch Bure's season of DWTS. The last season I was able to watch was Season 6 when I, of course, rooted for Jason Taylor (so close Jason...so.very.close.). However, being a fan DWTS or watching Season 18 is not essential for reading Bure's book. Even if you don't like the show at all, DTL is more than a book about dancing. As I read the pages of DTL I felt as if Bure and I were sitting in a coffee shop having a conversation. Her enthusiasm and joy is contagious, refreshing, and honest. I found myself giggling like a school girl even though my iPad wasn't giggling back (I'm sure there's an App for that.). And on more than one occasion a joyful tear or two splattered my screen. From the very beginning, Bure shares a core message of standing on conviction no matter if the audience is One or one million. She gives us a glimpse into the boundaries she set even before the first rehearsal. Boundaries and convictions constantly tested, yet never stretched or broken during her time on DWTS. As Bure says herself, This was about learning to live with conviction in all areas of my life. When the cameras were on and when they were off. She never says standing with conviction is easy. Easy would've been giving in to the voices of the world around her, the masses watching her. But Bure stressed how important to her it was to: ...hear the two voices that mattered most, the Lord’s and my own. From the get-go, God provides Bure a beautiful opportunity to focus on her relationship with Him in the midst of the chaos. An opportunity Bure could have ignored but instead takes hold of wholeheartedly. It didn’t take me long to figure out that those forty-five minutes in the hair-styling chair provided a great opportunity to read my Bible. The pace of the rest of the day was so intense that I needed that time in the Word to help me focus on what was really important. DTL is a beautiful reflection of Bure's time in the Word. It is saturated with Scripture, none of which feels forced, cheery-picked, or out of place. Each Scripture seems to have been placed in pages of Bure's heart before she placed it in the pages of her book. A testament to a woman after God's own heart who's true desire is to be salt and light. I did not want DTL to end. As the final pages sped closer, I read a bit slower so that I could fully digest each line. I highly recommend DTL for any reader ready to be encouraged and for a fun read!
