Twin sisters separated by the past are reunited by unspeakable crimes in New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton’s throat-clutching novel of suspense…

Trauma victims are not new to medical examiner Faith McIntyre, but this one is different. The unconscious woman clinging to life after a hit and run is FBI agent Macy Crow. What the woman from Quantico was doing in a dark alley after midnight is just one mystery. The other is more unsettling: Macy is Faith’s mirror image—the twin sister she never knew she had.

Faith knew that she was adopted, but now she’s finding that her childhood concealed other secrets. Following the trail of clues Macy left behind, Faith and Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden make a shocking discovery on an isolated country ranch—a burial ground for three women who disappeared thirty years before.

They weren’t the only victims in a killer’s twisted plot. And they won’t be the last.

As the missing pieces of Faith’s and Macy’s dark lives snap into place, Faith is becoming more terrified by what she sees—and by what she must do to save her sister and herself from the past.

Mary Burton is an author that I enjoy, knowing that her romantic suspense will draw me in with a great story and great characters. This one does not disappoint. When Texas Ranger, Mitchell Hayden finds the body of one of his informants, he knows the man has been tortured. Faith McIntyre is the active medical examiner on the case and after her examination she tries to make contact with the victim’s daughter, Macy Crow. Macy, an FBI agent, heads to Texas from Quantico. What she finds at her father's home has her running her own investigation. When Macy starts asking questions, she ends up on the radar of a hitman, who runs her down and leaves her for dead. When Hayden shows up at the scene of the accident, he finds the injured woman who looks exactly like Faith, the woman he has an odd relationship with. What is going on? Who has tried to kill Faith's lookalike? Is Faith in danger? Cut and Run is a romantic suspense story as well as a thriller, with action that starts right from the first page and does not let up. The story is told from a few different POVs with Hunter and Faith being the main ones, but a host of secondary characters as well. Faith is the medical examiner who worked on the first body. She was smart and dedicated to her job, finding answers for the victims and their families. She was someone who helps others, demonstrated by her work with the homeless young women, often putting herself in danger. Macy is very similar to Faith, but due to the accident, has a small role in this story. I hope she may have stories of her own in future books. Texas Ranger Hayden was good at his job and worked really well with Faith. He has some baggage from his past, and it was nice to see him try to move on from his tragedy. The story is well-paced with secrets from the past mixing in with the action in the present. There are some clues and crimes that tie this story together with some very despicable characters perpetrating some evil deeds. I listened to this book in one day as I eagerly used every spare moment to find out what was going to happen. The final twist came as a surprise, but it was fitting and well written. Brittany Pressley did a great job with the story. This book had a rather large cast of characters and I thought she handled them very well, giving them a voice. She was able to add emotion at times, as well as excitement and suspense to other scenes. I will watch for more books narrated by Ms. Pressley. I recommend this book to those who enjoy thrillers and romantic suspense.

Mary Burton writes an excellent horror story, and Cut and Run is no exception. Set in Austin, Texas and the surrounding Hill Country, which are some of our personal favored stomping grounds, this novel is peopled with empathetic, sympathetic characters and a doozy of a bad guy. Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden and FBI Special Agent Macy Crow, along with several of Austin's finest and the Austin Police Department Forensic Science Labs' technician Melissa Savage and Medical Examiner Dr. Faith McIntyre have lots of tools at their fingertips but it is their varied and innate instincts that will solve the cases of the death of Jack Crow, Macy's father, and the missing pregnant teenagers. Horror is not my usual genre, but Mary Burton will be the exception. Very intriguing and compulsive reading material.

Cut And Run – Mary Burton I was fortunate to receive this novel from as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review. Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden heads out to visit an old informant who called with some news and finds him dead in a lawn chair on his deck, with injuries clearly inflicted by another, indicating that Jack Crow was likely tortured before he died. As Mitchell assesses the scene, he notes that the home was trashed by someone who was looking for something, but there are no further clues to be found. Dr. Faith McIntyre, medical examiner for Travis County and occasional lover of Mitchell, performs the autopsy on Crow’s body, discovering that the victim didn’t have long to live, due to pancreatic cancer. She and Mitchell surmise that Jack had wanted to clear his conscience of something. Macy Crow, FBI agent and daughter of the deceased, arrives into town to assess the circumstances of her fathers death as well. Accessing a small hidden panel in her father’s home, she finds some clues he had left, including a burner phone with three addresses. As she visits each place, she becomes more convinced that there is a problem. One of the addresses leads to the ME’s office – and Macy discovers that she’s a dead ringer for Faith. Then she is run down by a truck and left for dead. As Macy fights for her life, Mitchell and Faith investigate the secrets that died with Jack, and Faith tries to trace her roots and find her relationship to Macy. But someone else is watching too, and doesn’t want Faith to find the answers… This book had me from the first page, and I read it cover to cover in a few hours! Great storyline, classic suspense/romance/intrigue and I loved the characters!! Hoping for more of Mitchell & Faith in the future!! Great read!

I liked this book. I found it to be a really well done romantic suspense novel. This is a stand-alone novel but I did find a connection to another one of her books, The Last Move, through the characters which I found interesting. I found this book to be easy to listen to for hours at a time as I worked to try to solve the mystery. I ended up have a great time with this story. The action starts right away in this book with the discovery of the body of a man that has been tortured. This is just the start of a rather complicated and far-reaching chain of events. I really wasn't sure how everything would work out or how one thing was connected to the next but as the book progressed everything just seemed to fall into place. There are events from the past connected to other things that are happening in the present day which really added to the mystery. I liked the characters quite a bit. Faith is the medical examiner tasked with working on the initial body. She was smart and dedicated to the job. She was also the kind of person that really worked to help others and got personally involved at times. Macy is Faith's equal in every way and they share a much deeper connection. I wish that Macy could have been a bigger part of the story but I did appreciate what she did add to the tale. Ranger Hayden was good at his job and worked really well with Faith. They made a great team and it was fun to see all the pieces come together. I thought that Brittany Pressley did a great job with the story. This book had a rather large cast of characters and I thought she handled them all really well. She was able to add a lot of emotion to the story at times and was able to add some excitement to other scenes. This was my first time listening to Brittany Pressley's work but I was really impressed and hope to get the chance to listen to her narration again soon. I would recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense. I liked that the mystery element to this story seemed to take the main stage with the romance adding a nice extra element. I plan to read more from Mary Burton in the future. I won a digital copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway and borrowed the audio.

Cut and Run is a thriller with twist ans turns in every chapter that kept me nail biting and nonstop reading through the night. I just had to know who's related and who is going 'round killing people And it seemed money can buy anything and make you blind to others pain and suffering. You have to be cold hearted and made of stone if you come up with a plan like the one described. And in the end maybe you'll get away with it.... Highly recommended!

If you're looking for a book that will keep you from wanting to get sleep, then this is it. Mary Burton has created yet another book that has not only suspense and twists and turns but some steamy moments between characters that might make you need a cold shower.. I am not a regular reader of romance and therefore the unique way that Mary manages to create the kind of suspenseful story with romance elements that makes me want to keep reading makes me want to send her a kudos!

5 stars! Some secrets can haunt you and spread like cancer, but for Jack Crow, it was a toss up after thirty years of keeping his, the cancer he now has running through his body might win after all. Jack didn't anticipate to be brutally murdered though, as Captain Mitchell Hayden of the Texas Rangers looked down upon the man's tortured body he wondered what secrets Jack held that he deserved such and ending. Sixty some odd years old, running a salvage yard in the Hill Country of Texas a medic in the military there certainly were some "questionable" goings on here, but he knew Jack would keep his secrets to the grave. Apparently someone didn't get what they wanted, and Hayden was just hours too late returning home to answer Jacks summons. Macy Crow, an FBI agent in Quantico arrived at her dad's trailer after receiving a message from Hayden and crime scene or not, Macy was determined to get to the bottom of her father's murder. A special spot her dad kept that only she knew of was left untouched in all the ransacking and within this space appeared components which might lead to some of the clues her dad died keeping. Unfortunately the trail to find the answers would come to be the catalyst for more brutal murders to come; as someone wanted these secrets kept at all costs!

As always, Burton’s plot is provocative and alluring. She leads the reader down a twisted tale of missing girls and murder. The characters were well developed and the multifaceted plot worked well to advance all the different directions of suspense and mystery that were occurring. The reader is able to become immediately invested in the main characters and outcome. As all good mystery novels go, Burton keeps you guessing until the very end with no shortage of suspense along the way. The one and only criticism I found with this novel is that in her attempt to develop Faith’s character, Burton created unnecessary dialogue and short story lines. When these situations failed to be a contributory factor to the plot, it felt anticlimactic and gratuitous. However, with that being said, this is a great book and recommended read. 4 stars.

If you are a fan of mysteries and suspense books, then, you need to check out author, Mary Burton. This latest offering from Mary does serve up good characters, a nice storyline with a mix of action and intrigue. I liked Faith. She was a good mixture of intelligent but personable as well. Thus in turn this made her relatable. A very important quality to have in a character. It makes reading a book much easier. There are several other characters featured in this book. They didn't play second string but equal parts to Faith. Which, I am a fan of this author's and her books. I do have to admit that I struggled in the beginning to really find my footing wit this book. The first chapter or two were good but after that it seemed like there was a lot of time spent in the details of trying to piece everything together. Not that details are not important but too much time spent causes the story to get bogged down. The second half of the book is much better. It is where the most of the action happened. Plus, the story moved faster. There are a few twists along the way.

As always Mary Burton delivers with a cracking breakneck speed thriller that demands to be devoured in one sitting! If you are familiar with Mary Burton's work Cut and Run won't disappoint and if you aren't then this book will have you itching to get your hands on her previous books. From start to finish there is not one dull moment and enough revelations and plot twists to have you second guessing leaving traces of doubt as to who is masterminding the sickening crimes. A brutal murder of a man who has been tortured, a hit and run that leaves a FBI agent in critical condition, a missing pregnant young girl, all seemingly connected somehow to medical examiner Faith McIntyre. And if that wasn't enough for her to deal with it becomes apparent that other historical cases are also connected. But how, why and who will take some seriously dark and twisted turns to make the pieces all fit together. Faith is a brilliant`protagonist and alongside Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden their characters and relationship was great, but for me Kat, the troubled teen stole the show. With a chip on her shoulder, hormonal and a touch of a rebellious nature, there is just something about her that is endearing with glimpses of the bright young lady she will become. The characters are all interesting and have you invested in each of them. I would love there to be a follow-up to this book so we could go back and see how they are all fairing up and what life has in store for them next. I throughly enjoyed this book and it is definitely one i would recommend, don't be deterred by the romantic suspense category, romance certainly isn't the plots core. It is one for fans of Karen Rose and Karin Slaughter. Cut and Run is out on 9th October 2019

Mary Burton is on top of her game with Cut and Run. You will Not want to sleep until you have finished this book! I can't say that Cut and Run is Mary's best because she's a great writer and has a lot of great books, she has a super awesome writing style, and she will make you feel like your right there in the book. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Cut and Run!!!! Ok now for the story line....Cut and Run starts out with Jack Crow puting in a call to Hayden Mitchel, Hayden finds Jack dead....and not in a nice way, he was pretty ruffed up. Jack also put a call into Macy, his adopted daughter....Macy being adopted is a BIG part of the story. Jack leaves clues for Macy to follow, but, why?! Macy is FBI, which is why he leaves the clues to Macy. 30 years ago girls came up missing from the same area. They each (3 of them) got taken about a year apart. These girls each had babies before being killed, so now, where are the babies and why is someone so worried about covering what happened all those years ago....someone really wants this secret dead!!!! Happy Reading!! :))

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Cut and Run by Mary Burton that I read and reviewed. I loved this book. It was excellent from start to finish. I can honestly say I had no idea who was behind the the killings and all the other crimes in the book. I was shocked when who was behind all the twist and turns were revealed at the end. I also loved the pairing of Faith and Mitchell in the book. They were a very interesting couple and their relationship was a great. I enjoyed how it grew throughout the book. This was one of Mary Burton better books and I would recommend it to anyone who loves books with romance and suspense because this book was full of both and it kept me on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down. I can't wait to see is Mary comes out with Macy's story because I would also love to see what happens with her. I am giving Cut and Run five out of five stars.

Thanks to Netgalley, Mary Burton, and Montlake Romance for this Digital ARC! I LOVE Mary Burton but honestly, the Texas Rangers series is my least favorite. I was disappointed to hear that an addition to that series would be next. I have changed my mind!! Cut and Run is great!! I was very happy with the characters of Faith and Michael and I really like my romantic suspense to center more on the suspense, rather than the romance. This one definitely does that. Fast-paced and difficult to figure out the culprit. Keep 'em coming Mary!!

Started and finished the same day! Thank you Net Galley and Montlake for letting me receive this arc. Thank you Mary Burton for your awesome story writing! I thought I knew who it was, and I was wrong. I loved strong independent medical examiner Faith. Texas Ranger Michael and Faith....was an interesting play out. This book was a complete page turner, gut wrenching, heart pounding, mystery, suspense, dark and twisted, with a HEA. The best of both worlds. I highly recommend this book to everyone, if you have not read Mary before grab this book, be aware this is not for the faint of heart.

Wowza was this story INTENSE!!! This is my first Mary Burton novel and I can't wait to get my hands on her backlist. Since this was a new to me author I really had no clue going in what to expect but boy am I ever glad I took a chance. Even though there were so many twists, turns, and unexpected plot twists, the author did a superb job of weaving it all together. I stayed on track and in fact, struggled to put it down when I had to. Despite this being primarily a suspense/thriller novel, I enjoyed that the author threw in a romance element as well with the relationship that blossomed and grew between Faith and Mitchell. This story kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing right until the very end when I was blown away. Hopefully the author has a story in mind for Macy next.

What a fantastic read, this book has a little bit of everything but a lot of surprises that will keep guessing until the end. When Texas Ranger Mitchell Haydon receives a message from by an old acquaintance, Jack Crow who has been known to live on the fringes of the law his interest is peaked. Unfortunately for Mr. Crow, he's a little late getting out to the Salvage yard where Crow lives. When Ranger Haydon arrives, let's just say he's chasing off the buzzards who are also interested in Mr. Crow. It looks like ole Jack took whatever secrets that this killer wanted to the grave by the looks of his poor old tortured body and tossed trailer house. Ranger Haydon calls in the reinforcements to see if they could come up with anything useful regarding who did this to the old man who was pretty much a hermit. Medical Examiner Fatih McIntyre and her investigator arrive and take Mr. Crow away and look for the next of kin to identify the body. Mr. Crow had a son, Dirk who lived on the other side of the property who seemed to be missing and a daughter Macy who lived in Virginia. They did make contact with Macy, and she drops everything and catches the next flight to Austin. Macy first stop is her dad's salvage yard; she's sure that the two initial searches might have missed something. She's right, her dad left her trail, but it was in the right direction. She's back at her hotel room when she sees a clip Faith McIntyre accepting an award regarding a children's home. She's completely dumbfounded by the image Faith; it was like her body double. She sends Faith a note plus a selfie and photo of her FBI identification. She's following her trial to a bar called "Second Chances" when things go wrong. Macy is almost killed after she leaves that bar, Ranger Haydon can't believe what his eyes when approaches the body of Macy laying broken in the street. He's been working with Faith for a long time and knew she was an only child. As I stated earlier this book has so many twists and turns, I'm finding it hard to write this review without spewing spoilers all over the place. Ms. Burton has done it again, another perfect romantic suspense novel that will rival anyone else's out there. I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this galley in exchange for my honest review. The opinions I expressed above are my own.

Mary Burton proves herself to be an author worth taking note of in her masterful suspense, Cut and Run. Medical examiner Faith McIntyre's world is shaken when she discovers the secrets her parents kept regarding her adoption lead to a twin sister who has just landed in the hospital as the victim of a hit and run. Macy and Faith's connection to another victim lead Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden deeper into a dark world of kidnapped women and hush-hush adoptions. The story immediately draws readers into the mystery as a potential lead is found tortured and dead. Mitchell Hayden takes the reins and quickly and brings Faith into the investigation. Even though Faith has possible personal ties to the case she still makes it clear that once she's invested she's seeing it through to the end. I loved both Mitchell and Faith because they're driven and focused on the case, despite personal trauma. I thought it very interesting that they had a physical arrangement that didn't involve any labels and kept it professional around others. It was a positive change of pace from romantic suspense plagued with instant attraction story lines. There wasn't any angsty drama between the two struggling to figure out their relationship, so the plot was absolutely driven by suspense. Cut and Run is a dark romantic suspense you just can't miss! Mary Burton guides readers through a plot that leads to a satisfying end that has just the right amount of closure and still allows the characters' futures to be left up to conjecture. It's perfect for fans of Rita Herron or Cynthia Eden! If any of her stories are like Cut and Run, I'm definitely looking forward to reading more! *ARC provided in consideration for review*

You never know how big your own family may be. You may have a twin, sibling, and who knows what else. As secrets unfold, this story gets more suspenseful, thrilling, spine-tingling, and bone-chilling by the minute. This romantic suspense brings medical examiner Dr. Faith McIntyre and Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden together to work with detectives, FBI agents, and others in trying to solve a murder. The more Faith and Mitchell and other law enforcement dig into the mystery of this crime, the further back in time they must explore. This multiple murder crime spree started at least a decade ago, and involves pregnant women. It is a scary premise, but the author handles everything with thoughtfulness, care, and a lot of heart. I recommend this to anyone who likes what I consider to be a romantic suspense thriller. It was extremely hard to put it down. [I received an early copy of this book and my opinion is my own.]

Mary Burton is one of the best suspense writers out there. She puts so much into each book that she writes, and I find it extremely hard to put down. Macy Crow comes back to town, when her father is found murdered. There are many secrets that should have been buried with him, but he left clues for Macy (an FBI Agent) to find. When she starts looking around she is hit by a car and left for dead. Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden is called to the scene, to be totally caught off guard when he sees that she looks exactly like Faith McIntyre the medical examiner in town. As the secrets of this town come out, and there are MANY, can Faith and Mitchell find the answers before someone else is murdered. The end of this book was totally a surprise!! Didn't see that one coming at all..... I would like to Thank NetGallery for a free copy.

This latest from Mary Burton takes the saying “sins from the past” to a whole new level. The past comes crashing into the present and in turn affecting so many lives. This was a great suspense that kept you turning the pages. A large cast of characters both alive and dead that where all pieces to large puzzle that at its conclusion had great ramifications. I hope there will be a future book with at least the twin sisters story (btw, not a spoiler as that is in the books description)
