I am going to tread lightly with this review, as anyone who enters the classic realm of Ravenloft should. I will endeavor to avoid spoilers as carefully as I avoid the vampiric denizens outlined in this tome. To be brief: those of you looking for an adventure that combines Gothic horror, classic game play, and true immersion in the D&D 5th edition, this is you (un)holy ground! The adventure is for 3-4 players between 1-10th level. The book includes early-on adventures for novice-class players to explore and level up before facing the final horror. But don't be fooled, the titular villain can show up (along with a few of his "friends" at any time to, ahem--suck--you into a demiplane that you really, really don't want to visit. I've been playing D&D on an off since the early '80s, and I have to say that this Ravenloft adventure is exceptional in its detail. It really paints a clear, though terrifying and dreadful, picture of the dread and despair that you, as DM, can create for your party of..."friends." Buy it! It is highly recommended.
