About the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

Place of Birth:

Hamburg, Germany; Margret in 1906, and H.A. in 1898

Place of Death:

Cambridge, Massachusetts; Margret died in 1996, H.A. in 1977

My mother gave me a copy of this book when I had to have my tonsils out 2 days before my fifth birthday. I absolutely loved it! It really helped me through a scary time. That was 32 years ago. Now my 3 year old son has a surgery next month and he will be getting the book too.

My daughter quickly became so enthralled with this book that she swallowed a dime so that she could have an x-ray at the hospital! We can still laugh at this 23 years later!

When I went to the hospital to get my tonsils out when I was four, my mom gave me this book to read while I was there. I was all alone, but, then again, I wasn't. I was with Curious George, and that made all the difference in the world.

My 2.5 year old has had multiple surgeries since he was born. The social worker at his school suggested this book before his last surgery. What a difference it made! It was a much more positive experience since we could relate it to what George did.

So disappointed. This is favorite childhood story, and it is just not formatted for Nook. I got my money back and will buy the hardcover edition.

Who at bn thinks that scanning a book and then typing the same text next to the scanned pages is a nookbook. A joke don't waste your money

This is a refreshing classic that my daughter absolutely loves. George is a healthy character that teaches good values to the kids, with just good sense. We read this to get ready for my 18 mos. daughter surgery. Started about 3 weeks before the hospital visit, and was amazed how she understood the message. The bood and the hospital visit had many similarities. The surgery was successful, and we still read Curious George, and he remains her favorite character.

Curious George swallows a piece of his jigsaw puzzle and has to go to the hospital. After his operation, George cheers up the children in the ward with his antics. This is a touching story that could make hospital-bound children feel more secure and at ease.

This book is not formatted well for Nook Color like 'Curious George Goes To An Ice Cream Shop' or 'Curious George Goes To A Chocolate Factory' which work very well. This book works only in portrait mode and is not easy to navigate for kids. Buy this book in paperback instead.
