Country Music Hall of Fame Series

Country Music Hall of Fame Series

by Uncle Dave Macon

"Shout if you are happy!" Uncle Dave Macon exclaims during "Tom and Jerry" as Mazy Todd saws away at her fiddle. "Kill yo'self!" That's the kind of enthusiasm Macon brings to these 16 fine examples of string-band music, recorded between 1926 and 1934 for the Vocalion, Brunswick, and Champion labels. Macon, who was 55 at the first of these recording sessions, frequently starts the songs with a spoken anecdote (including a plug for his Macon Midway Mule and Wagon Transportation Company). This collection is essentially an expanded version of Uncle Dave Macon: First Featured Star of the Grand Ole Opry, a retrospective issued in 1966 after his posthumous election to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
