I really enjoyed this book and I think it is a great book to read to the students to get a better understanding of Christopher Columbus. It goes through some challenges and the journey he went through to his trip to the new world.

Summary:This is a great book for children about Columbus's voyage. I think the colorful illustrations would keep children entertained. Also, the story is simply and interestingly written and easy to follow.Personal Reaction:This was a neat history book to read. I especially like some of the details from the book like the new foods that were taken back to Spain. I also liked the cut away picture of the ship.Classroom Extension Ideas:1. For a creative writing assignment I would have students make a list of what 5 items they would take with them if they were going on Christopher Columbus journey.2. For a history assignment, I would have students write down 8 facts from the book that they were surprised to learn. I would also have them write down what they already knew before we read the book.

I found the book to be an easy read I couldn't put it down. I found it very informitive and fun to read. The book was easier to read because of the way it was written. I would use this book in my classroom to help get my students more interested in history.

This is a biography of Christopher Columbus, focusing on his journey to find the West Indies but really discovering the Americas. It contains positive and informative information about Columbus and the boats that he took on his journey. This is a primary level reading book, for students who are just starting to learn how to read. Columbus was a round and dynamic character in this book, he discovered many new things and even became afraid on his journey. The reader learns many new things about how he was as a leader, and the courage he has.
