The Chosen is the single title release of the novella that was previously published in the holiday anthology AMID THE WINTER SNOW in December, 2017.

From New York Times bestselling author Thea Harrison

A Wolf on the hunt...

Wulfgar Hahn, better known as the Wolf of Braugne, is a man on a mission. Determined to avenge the murder of his brother, he stops at Camaeline Abbey to meet with the Chosen of Camael, goddess of the Hearth. Unfortunately, it appears the Chosen wants nothing to do with him.

A leader in disguise...

Captivated by the Wolf of Braugne despite herself, Lily poses as an unassuming priestess in  order to learn more about this ruthless man. But things are not as they seem, and after foiling an assassination attempt, Lily must decide if Wulf is the destroyer from her visions, or the hero of her dreams.

A choice to be made...

As war looms on the horizon, passion sparks between them, but an enduring relationship between a soldier on the march and a leader who reveres hearth and home is impossible—or is it? Among the swirling snows of the winter Masque, the gods and goddesses of the Elder Races dance, and love will find a way...

Dynan and his twin brother Dain don't know it, but they are born in fulfillment of an ancient prophecy, and if they can't live up to their destiny, it could mean the end of the world, brought about by the demon Belial. It all beings when Dynan finds a dangerous talisman while taking part in an archeological dig, and it ends up with him needing to find the originator of his line while in the spirit world. It is really hard to describe the basic plot of this book without ending up giving spoilers, so I'll have to leave it there. What I will say is that this is an amazing work of science fantasy (a fantasy story set in a science fiction world, I guess is the way to describe it) - the characters are developed wonderfully, the history is outlined enough to help the reader understand what is happening, and there is a perfect blend of character development and action to keep fans of both schools of writing happy. Anyone who enjoys a good story, especially in a science fantasy vein, should absolutely love this book - I highly recommend it and suggest you take the time to track it down and read it as soon as possible.

What an imaginative concept!! I loved this book! If you enjoy fantasy/sci-fi, you cannot go wrong here. Fantastic characters and beautifully structured plotline. A nice mixture of "science" and the basic elements of fantasy, blended into a gripping tale.

CHOSEN is a wonderfully written Science Fiction\Fantasy story that centres on Dynan and Dain Telaerin, Identical twins and Princes of Cobalt who discover they were born with a destiny to save not only their world but every world and every person in existence. The writing is so good that it grips you from the first word and will not let you go until the last word and even then you'll still find yourself saying WOW. The characters are vibrant and fresh and exciting and the "world" created by Jolea while being full of SciFi and Fantasy is also very human and very believable, It is easy to imagine these events taking place and even to find yourself going along for the ride There is action, adventure, love, death, revenge, greed, political intrigue and everything else you could possibly want in a good story that you WILL enjoy and you WILL want to read over and over again. If you're looking for a great new book series to read I cannot recommend the Guardians Of The Word enough, So grab yourself a copy of Chosen and prepare for one fantastic and thrilling adventure and then you can go find the sequels!

I picked this up from best books, an app., where you can find booksfor free. And I saw this book, Chosen by Jolea m. Harris, And usually I don't pick science fiction, I usually pick horror novels, but this book looked good, so I read the readers' review , and I decided to give it a try, and I am so glad I did, It was extremely entertaining, and it was a great read, so I am tryingto ge Ms. Harris next book Myth. She has a great style of writing which I liked and it wasn't too descriptive, which was great, and I am looking forward to any other books she has written. Toeveryone else who reads this, I say Please get this book, ylu will like it

I really enjoyed reading Chosen by Jolea M. Harrison. I was gripped from the first words and couldnt get enough. I finished Chosen in about three days. Pros: The writing was so descriptive! I felt like I was seeing through Dynan's eyes. In fact the void chapters were so descriptive that I had nightmares lol. I thought the story flowed nicely and that it was a great conceptual idea and not at all what I expected from the plot summary. And I loved it. Cons: At times I felt it was the Dynan show and everyone else was along for the ride. The prophecy referred to twins but it seemee as if Dain had no purpose outside of being the other twin. 90% of the time he's "off screen." I'd love to see more about the royal family and their roles. My biggest complaint is that I cant seem to locate the next book Myth previewed at the end of Chosen. And it is killing me to see where this plot goes now!

I always enjoy reading Thea Harrison’s creative and well done tales. This story takes place in an Otherland kingdom where those familiar with Ms. Harrison’s Elder Races series will understand that fae and other non-humans inhabit. There humans are also to be found for various reasons living there. Lily is a seer of great power; her people have come to rely on her to guide them. Lily's visions of two men tell of very different outcomes depending on whom she chooses to ally with. One of the men who comes to storm her defenses is quite surprised with Lily’s courage and strength. She lives inside the Camaeline Abbey where they are protector priestesses who worship Camel, goddess of the Hearth. Someone is using cruel weather magic to subvert the six kingdoms in an attempt to rule them all. It is up to Lily to decide who the enemy is, and who she will help to defend her people and the other kingdoms from more brutal assaults because war is coming. This story was originally published in an anthology

Though sometimes difficult keeping all the characters straight I found the story to be strangely compelling. I am eager to read the next book - the ending of this one makes it clear that the story hasn't ended.

So happy to see another elder races novel. Too bad it was only a novella. Thea ~ waiting for your next full length novel in the series

This is story was originally printed in the anthology Amid the Winter Snow. Thea Harrison created a fantastic love story filled with fantasy, magic and daring rescues. This book is set in the Elder Races world but it is very loosely connected. Lily is a seer and the leader of her people, she shines with grace and courage. Wulf is the hero trying to hold his army together, his growth comes from his softening and understanding towards Lily. Thea Harrison has done a wonderful job of weaving together a story of depth and intrigue in a short amount of time. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

I loved Ms. Thea Harrison’s The Chosen in Amid the Winter Snow. If you’ve read her other series, this one is set entirely in the Elder Realms. If you haven’t read any of her books, don’t worry, this story stands alone. The world building was great. With most short stories, I have to set aside my initial resistance with the quick relationships. In The Chosen, both characters have such a strong sense of self that it worked out well and I was swept along. Highly recommend if you are looking for a romance, good worldbuilding, set in a winter landscape.

An interesting read... A woman lured as a child to a new world by a goddess and destined to lead her people to their future meets a man forced into a leadership role by tragedy and perceived as a villain. Set in a world loosely connected to the Elder Races series, The Chosen, captured my interest and made me want to delve deeper into the story. To be honest, the Elder Races connection was not immediately obvious and I unsure about what I should expect from the book. Thankfully, I approached it with an open mind and found that Thea Harrison had penned yet another wonderful story. The main character’s romance was sweet and quirky given that each character was from very different backgrounds. The story will appeal to fans of the Elder Races series and anyone that likes Thea Harrison’s works. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the novella that was in the anthology “AMID THE WINTER SNOW” so if you missed it this is your chance to get it as a stand alone, while there is references to the Elder Race series you can read this as a stand alone. It’s a great way to sample Thea Harrison writing without having to read all the Elder Race series …you will want to… but otherwise a great quick read from Thea Harrison.

I loved this book! Even though it was short it was very well thought out and didn't seem rushed like I often find novellas are. I loved both the lead characters and enjoyed their chemistry, but I especially liked Lily, the female lead. She was both strong and independent yet vulnerable in ways that made her relatable and interesting to read about. You don't HAVE to have read the previous Elder Races books to read this one, however this novella did provide insight to a facet of the Elder Races that had not yet been explored in the previous books which I enjoyed. One of my favorite novellas in the series so far!

THE CHOSEN by Thea Harrison: Lily has had visions where she has to choose between a wolf and a tiger. The man who she falls in love with has the possibility of saving her realm or destroying it. When a warrior comes to town, Lily has to decide which man he is. This novella takes place in Harrison's Elder Races universe although in a place apart from the characters and places in the novels. I very much enjoyed this story although the outcome seemed completely obvious from the start. The characters were so well drawn and interesting that I was disappointed that the story ended. (Maybe we will revisit them someday). Rating: 4 stars. Previously published in Amid the Winter Snow.

The Chosen is a novella in the Elder Races world created by Thea Harrison. It brings to light new faces along with a deeper insight into the crossover worlds referenced about in the Elder races series till now. The focus is on illuminating a new mythos with brand new characters and relationships. This book introduces Lily, the Chosen of Camaeline Abbey. She has a strong connection to Camael, the elder races goddess of the hearth and as the Chosen has the responsibility of looking after the welfare of the kingdom of Ys. Wulfgar Hahn is a highly powerful warrior who ascended to the position of Protector of Braugne after his brother's murder rumored to be at his hand. But things are not always what they seem. Together, after starting out as potential enemies Wulfgar and Lily work together to save their kingdoms from the nefarious designs of their neighbor Guerlan. Thea Harrison's novella is enchanting and a worthy holiday read. The other three stories just add to the magic. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC

Thea Harrison writes such great stories. I have not read any of the other books in this series but I loved reading about Lily and Wulf. I am a huge fan of her Moonshadow series and can't wait to start reading the Elder Races as I know I will not be disappointed. The author provided me with a copy of the anthology, Amid the Winter Snow, where this story was originally published in exchange for an honest review.

I read The Chosen when it was included in Amid the Winter Snow: A Holiday Anthology as one of four festive reads. I actually picked up that collection mainly for Thea Harrison’s contribution which is set in her Elder Races world. I’ve inhaled every installment in her Elder Races so reading The Chosen was a given. “Do you always get your way?” He tilted his head as he considered that. “I must confess I do.” Not surprisingly, The Chosen by Thea Harrison was my favorite in the set. The tale is a paranormal fantasy. Even if you aren’t familiar with her books, you won’t have any trouble with this story. The heroine has prophetic dreams and has to choose whether to align with the wolf or the tiger – both fierce adversaries - to save her homeland. Whichever she chooses, she’s destined to love… Thea is one of my favorite authors. I’ve inhaled every one of her published works. The Chosen features a warmly satisfying happy ending and is blissfully cliffhanger-ending-free making it a perfect standalone choice if that is your preference and an excellent escape read!

Previously published in the AMID THE WINTER SNOW anthology 4.5 Stars! Thea Harrison brings us a new story set in another part of the Elder Races world. War is on the brink between one land and another and Lily’s people have refused to take sides in it. But when they get uninvited visitors from a far off land offering gifts to the Chosen, suspicions rise and all may not be as it seems. What an exciting story! It was a slow starting in order to lay some groundwork but then quickly took off as actions ensue and a certain warrior Wulf with his ruggedly handsome charm begins an unusual flirtation with Lily. The story building was excellent and the characters were flexible and easily relatable. I really enjoyed reading it! I can only ding one thing about THE CHOSEN in that it wasn’t long enough! I would have loved for an expanded version of this story with more about the wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing Varian, who sits on the neighboring throne next to Lily’s land. He’s only referred to but we never get to see him or how much of a big jerk he really is. I would have loved for everyone’s story to get explored further. I really hope Ms. Harrison has more books planned for this story arc! I have GOT to know what happens next! THE CHOSEN has action, excitement, mystery and a unique romance that will satisfy any reader! I haven’t read the other books in the anthology this novella is featured in, but I’m sure they are equally amazing! ***I voluntarily read a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I received an ARC of this book in return for reviewing The Chosen. I am a long-time fan of Harrison and am amazed at how she continuously puts out stories that draw me in and leave me longing for more. With her novella The Chosen, Harrison returns to the world of the Elder Races but with a twist: this story takes place 100% in the Other Lands. This setting gives the story a medieval feel with that added element of magic. In Wulf, we have an alpha warrior reminiscent of Dragos (Dragon Bound: sexy, intelligent, possessive, vengeful, and take charge), but with more sensitivity and flirtiness. Lily, the heroine, is another great sassy, strong woman with a gift that is a burden and a blessing. Even though the H/H made me think of some of my other favorite characters, they are in no way weak shadows or derivations. They are unique, and their relationship is, too. This book is a testament to Harrison’s abilities as a writer. It is clearly the launch of a new series, and I found the pace and exposition perfect. Harrison packs a lot of detail and info in this short work, but I never once felt confused, bored, or overwhelmed. Amazingly, I also never thought things were happening too fast. She weaves the story threads together in perfect harmony. I cannot wait to read future stories with Lily and Wulf, as well as the other characters introduced. I’m even hoping some Earth-side Elder Races characters pop up. This book is a definite winner.

*** Previously read as part of Amid the Winter Snow I very much enjoy the Elder Race series and this novella was no exception. Lily can see things and she’s been having dreams about two men battling. Now that Wulf has arrived on her doorstep she must choose sides. One will lead to happiness, while the other will lead to despair. Wolf is a bad and good man wrapped up in one. He’s formidable and honorable too. Lily is the Chosen and leader of her people. I liked Lily and Wolf. Both knew the hardship of being leaders for their people and living with chooses that may not always turn out. Their chemistry together was wonderful, these two complemented each other, and their romance was enchanting. The Chosen is a magical story full of confrontation and desire. Rated: 4 Stars *Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy provided by Thea Harrison with the sole purpose of an honest review. All thoughts, comments and ratings are my own.

3.75 stars--Told from dual third person points of view (Lily and Wulf) THE CHOSEN by Thea Harrison is an adult, paranormal/fantasy romance storyline focusing on goddesses, priestesses, witches, The Chosen, psychic abilities, weather mages, seers and war. NOTE: THE CHOSEN was originally release in the December 2017 multi-authored anthology AMID THE WINTER SNOW Loosely connected to the author’s ELDER RACES series THE CHOSEN follows Lily, a priestess or as we will learn, The Chosen, the leader of her people at The Abbey, and the woman with whom Wulf will fall in love. Wulf and his people are at war, looking for a place to rest during the unnatural violent winter storms when he meets Lily, the woman that calls to his heart. Lily has visions of Y’s doom, at war with the unknown, and soon discovers that Wulf’s warriors are slowly being poisoned, quite possibly by someone within their midst. Thea Harrison’s THE CHOSEN is a story of fantasy; of darkened realms accessed through hidden pathways; and of two people whose lives with be forever changed by defiance and war. A detailed story line that requires a little more explanation THE CHOSEN reads like a prequel novella or the first in a series of a new ELDER RACES spin off. The premise is entertaining and intriguing; the characters are passionate; the romance is seductive but limited.
