CatStronauts: Mission Moon was cute, funny, and something an adult could read in a matter of minutes. I can’t see it taking a kid a long time either. It had a nice mix of playfulness and action. There was even a tense little moment when the CatStronauts nearly had to abort the mission. The dialogue was simple but effective. The illustrations weren’t my favorite, but the panels and lettering were well laid out. The characters were distinct, and the colors all easy on the eyes. I liked that Mission Moon actually dealt with a possible problem we’re facing when fossil fuels run out. The idea of a solar plant on the moon had me giving it the stink eye at first. However just googling “Solar Plant on Moon” shows that maybe it’s not as complete bunk as I thought it might be. (Here’s an article on Popsci about it if you’re interested.) It also included a little bit of the training that astronauts CatStronauts have to go through before they go into space. It was only basic things, like the Vomit Comet, but still a surprising bit of realism in a silly kid’s book. I wish that one of the team of CatStronauts had been a female kitty. That would have been nice. Instead, the only females we see in the book that are doing anything are the President’s assistant and the newscaster. (There might have been another, but those are the two that stand out.) I had a few other small issues, but nothing worth mentioning here. Especially because as my kiddo said: “Mom, I’m pretty sure this is supposed to be a funny book. So I don’t think that matters.” (Ouch!) At that point all I could do was nod and say “Yes, dear” and shut up. I can’t say i was super crazy about CatStronauts: Moon Mission. However, I liked it enough that I will be checking out future volumes from the library. It would be a solid read for your 7-10 year old to read on their own. However, you could easily space it out over a night or two as a bedtime story as well.

Mission Moon is the first book in the CatStronauts comic book series! When the world is being run by cats and with the world being thrust into darkness due to a global energy shortage, it's up to a special group of cats to save the world! The World's Best scientist comes up with the plan to put solar panels on the moon to harness the power of the sun, it's up to the CatStronauts to save the day! I found this book to be extremely cute and catchy as well! The story-line was well written and having cats rule the world was perfect for this cat lover! I could see this being a good comic book to get younger readers into comics or even older readers just wanting to read something that is light-hearted and fun to read! This book totally reminded me of another group of cats that was popular in the 80's that makes this book even better to get into!! Thank You to Drew Brockington for coming up with this series that any cat lover to someone that loves to read comics can totally enjoy!! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the Publisher!
