Watch out, world — it's wedgie power with a vengeance when Captain Underpants faces the wickedest, wildest villain yet!

George Beard and Harold Hutchins don't get straight A's, aren't sports stars, and can barely walk down the hallway without getting into trouble. But they have one thing that most folks at their school don't have: Imagination. And that drives their mean homeroom teacher, Ms. Ribble, crazy!

This time, George and Harold have imagined up a comic book where Ms. Ribble turns into an evil, bionic-powered, wedgie-giving wacko. And now she's mad enough to flunk them out of fourth grade. Will Ms. Ribble's revenge ruin our heroes' hopes? This looks like another job for Captain Underpants!

About the Author

When Dav Pilkey was a kid, his teachers thought he was disruptive, "behaviorally challenged," and in serious need of a major attitude adjustment.

When he wasn't writing sentences in the detention room, he could usually be found sitting at his private desk out in the hallway. There he spent his time writing and drawing his own original comic books about a superhro named Captain Underpants.

Dav's teachers told him, "You'd better straighten up, young man, because you can't spend the rest of your life making silly books." Dav was not a very good listener!

But seriously... Dav Pilkey has written and illustrated several popular award-winning books for children. The Adventures of Captain Underpants, which has nearly one million copies in print, was an American Bookseller Pick of the Lists and a Publishers Weekly "Cuffie" Award winner for the Funniest Book of the Year; Dog Breath was awarded the California Young Reader Medal; The Paperboy was chosen as a Caldecott Honor Book. Mr. Pilkey also illustrated the IRA-CBC Children's Choice Award-winning Dumb Bunnies books.

Dav Pilkey and his dog live in Oregon.

My 7 year old loves these books. They are silly, funny and they make him laugh out loud as he devours each page. Great for reluctant young readers. Also, check out the Ricky Ricotta books by this author.

We bought this book used. The fifth book in the Captain Underpants series brings things back to the beginning and even busts out the 3D HypnoRing that started it all. Long-time troublemakers Harold and George try to break free from the smothering demands of their school by tricking Principal Krupp into asking their teacher, Ms. Ribble. to marry him. Ms. Ribble responds by flunking them. George and Harold try to correct things with the hypno-ring but only end up with a super powered evil woman on their hands. In a stellar super hero showdown featuring underwear, giant robots and prehensile hair George and Harold must save Captain Underpants from himself and get their teacher back to the mean old ordinary woman she's supposed to be. The Captain Underpants series is hilarious, fun and silly enough to pull in even the most resistant reader. The conflict is often based around George and Harold making mistakes and having to fix them and the language features a lot of puns and in jokes, which while silly are also great for helping kids with comprehension and language development. It should be a part of public collections for kids for sure and makes for great before-bed reading as well. Recommended for 6-12 yrs

This series of books is a great way to get your hesitant young readers interested. My sons loves the "bathroom humor", and even I get a chuckle at the antics of the two main characters.
