Growing up in the modern world, our children have to cope with ever-increasing amounts of stress, which can hinder their development. The ancient wisdom of Buddhism, with its emphasis on peace, love and compassion, is the ideal basis for helping any child to face these challenges with inner confidence and calm. Building on the age-old art of storytelling, this beautiful book re-tells 20 ancient Buddhist tales in a way that is thoroughly fun and accessible to children. Featuring superb, full-page illustrations, the stories will transport kids into an imaginary world of enlightenment and discovery where they will meet delightful characters and discover an easy-to-understand Buddhist message—one that will help them think about how they can apply values such as patience, perseverance, honesty and generosity to their own lives. Designed to be read aloud by a parent or read by older children on their own, these compelling narratives provide a pleasurable, soothing transition into sleep.

This is the greatest valued book that I have ever read for children. They love to read again and again, over and over. Me too!

This book has changed the way my children go to sleep, the way they dream and the things they think about. My children have never slept so soundly or fallen asleep so quickly than after doing these simple breathing exercises and peacefully listening to these beautifully written and illustrated stories. My daughter's horse had to be put down the other night and that evening we read the story about the prince (p. 127), which touches upon the idea of bereavement and acceptance, and my 5 year old just "got it". She felt at peace that her horse was no longer suffering. Thank you Buddha at Bedtime for making my children's bedtime so peaceful.

I picked this up for my 8yo daughter and she just loves it. Beautifully written with dreamy illustrations. The stories are filled with wisdom and lessons of thoughtfulness and humility,al things that children need to learn. I highly suggest this book for your family.

I bought this book for my kids to give them an introduction to Buddhism. However, it has been so much more. The pictures are stunning (bright and colorful) and the stories are instructive, without being preachy or boring. My kids love this book and request it every evening. They always ask for me to read more stories (initially, we choose two per night but always end up reading an extra one or two). We discuss the moral at the end of the story (there is a little picture of Bhudda with a lesson at the end of each story). This is a wonderful book for a family of any religion; the lessons and themes are universal. I recommend it for excellent bedtime (or anytime) reading.

The first thing that catches your eye about this book are the lush and colorful illustrations. There is something for the eye to enjoy on every page. The stories are the perfect length for reading at bedtime, and they are new and different from every other book you've read your child before. My eight year old would beg me to read extra stories every time we got this book out. There are a few odd spellings and typos, which could be because of translation. However, my reading audience always loved finding the grammatical errors to correct them. This book does have additional information about Buddhism and meditataion, but those parts can be skipped if you just want some great stories. The stories never refer to Buddha specifically. At the end of each one there is a sentence or two explaining the moral of the story with a small picture of Buddha. The stories all feature people or animals as main characters. Some are more fantasy driven than others, some are more realistic. They all teach a lesson about ethics or morality, and open the door to discussions about those concepts.
