Finn and Layla are young, in love, and on vacation. They re driving along the highway when Finn decides to stop at a service station to use the restroom. He hops out of the car, locks the doors behind him, and goes inside. When he returns Layla is gone?never to be seen again. That is the story Finn told to the police. But it is not the whole story.

Ten years later Finn is engaged to Layla s sister, Ellen. Their shared grief over what happened to Layla drew them close and now they intend to remain together. Still, there s something about Ellen that Finn has never fully understood. His heart wants to believe that she is the one for him...even though a sixth sense tells him not to trust her.

Then, not long before he and Ellen are to be married, Finn gets a phone call. Someone from his past has seen Layla?hiding in plain sight. There are other odd occurrences: Long-lost items from Layla s past that keep turning up around Finn and Ellen s house. Emails from strangers who seem to know too much. B.A. Paris does it again with this latest thriller. I was hooked from the beginning and it's full of suspense, keeping you wanting to read it all as quickly as possible to find out how it ends, with a twist that you will never see coming. So good!

It was extremely "draggy" and dreadful .. truly a chore to read to the (disappointing) end! I would never consider reading another book by this author.

Bring Me Back by B.A.Paris June 2018 Fiction I received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press in exchange for an unbiased review. The story is told from the perspective of Finn McQuaid and Layla, his girlfriend who goes missing in 2006 after a ski trip in Megeve. The couple begin to argue and escalates when they stop at a rest stop on their way home from Paris. What follows is a confusing situation which results in Layla’s disappearance and Finn being the center of the police investigation. After Layla’s disappearance, police detective Tony Heddon arrests Finn for suspicion of the murder of Layla when she is never found. Eventually, Finn is able to move on and become a successful businessman. By chance, he meets and eventually falls in love with Ellen, who happens to be Layla’s sister. Brought together by the grief and confusion of Layla’s disappearance and presumed dead, they build a life together. After the couple become engaged and start planning for their wedding, clues begin to emerge that Layla might still be alive. When a small Russian nesting doll appears their pleasant life gets turned upside down. Rumors and secrets emerge which are meant to provide suspense regarding what happened to Layla. Unfortunately, the plot becomes rather monotonous and slows while unfolding the events which transpired over the years. Although the Russian nesting dolls provided significance to the sisters relationship, they become “overused” as a mysterious indicator that stirs up anxiety from the past. Likewise, the plot begins to lose suspense during the Russian doll “plateau” so that the ending becomes more obvious. I had wanted to like the book more than I did but it lost me half way through when it seems the plot “stalls”. Overall, it is an enjoyable read but not for those who desire a deeply suspenseful psychological drama.

I received an advanced copy from the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review. This was another amazing psychological thriller and complete mind twist from this wonderful author! I did NOT see that ending coming, how do you always do that to me?!?! I have read all the books by this author and I will ABSOLUTELY continue to read her because she just continues to amaze. This novel flips back and forth from the present to the past with memories of a man and his first, real intense love....and when she disappeared twelve years before. Finn seems like he has moved on, especially with his disappearing girlfriend's sister, but all of the sudden it seems as though his long lost love may be reappearing in his life and he does not know what to do. This was a VERY unexpected ending, as always, gripping all the way and another novel I just did NOT want to put down. I do love this author!

On their way home from a ski trip in France, Finn’s girlfriend, Layla disappeared from a rest-stop. When questioned later, Finn could remember seeing a man leaving the bathroom headed towards his car and a truck with no driver parked with them. Upon discovering Layla missing from the car, Finn realized that both vehicles were now missing as well. Could Layla have been taken against her will by one of those drivers? In the end, all Finn found of her was a little Russian doll next to their car. After being under suspicion of murdering Layla, Finn is eventually cleared by the police and is forced to start his life “after Layla”. Twelve years later, Finn is engaged to none other than Layla sister, Ellen. As their wedding fast approaches the two start to receive mysterious signs that Layla might not really be dead. Little Russian dolls begin to show up on the wall outside their home, in various places they frequent and when the emails begin to arrive, Finn realizes that the lies he told on the night Laya first went missing might be back to haunt him. B.A. Paris has fast become one of my favorite suspense writers and “Bring Me Back” doesn’t disappoint. I only have one more title to read in her catalog but a little birdy told me that there is a new B.A. Paris book to be released in early 2020.

Another excellent book by B.A. Paris! I figured the story out halfway through, but regardless it was an incredible read while the rest of the characters figured it all out. Layla and Finn are the perfect couple--fate as brought them together. Finn has no idea what his terrible temper does with Layla's mind. Suddenly, Layla disappears without a trace. As Finn and Layla's sister console each other, inevitably Ellen and Finn fall in love. Twelve years later, Layla appears to have returned. What happens after that makes for a great story.

I liked the turns and surprises, and I would recommend this book as a funny, though intense read.

After listening to this audiobook, it took me a couple of days before writing this review. I wanted to think about this story a bit. It is a psychological thriller that had me hooked right from the beginning. The story is told from the POV of Finn, with a few chapters told by Layla and Ellen. Finn and Layla were in love over a decade ago, until Layla goes missing from a gas station parking lot, never to be seen or heard from again. Finn and Layla's sister, Ellen fall in love some years later and have just announced their wedding. Following the announcement, Finn and Ellen begin receiving Russian nesting dolls (the meaning of which connects Ellen and Layla from their childhood). The addition of those Russian nesting dolls added a bit of creepiness to the story as well. What really happened to Layla? Is she still alive? Who is placing those dolls in discriminate spots? I could not stop listening to this book. I loved the voice of Finn and when a chapter from Layly popped in, I loved hearing that narrator as well. They brought the characters alive for me. We also get a before and now perspective so we can see what was happening in Finn's and Layla's relationship. B.A. Paris delivers a very readable, unique and fun story here with unreliable characters. There was not a lot of suspense or thrill in this book, but it still had me wanting to find out what was going to happen next and I kept going even though I had other things to do. I did not figure out what was happening and was shocked by the ending. The epilogue tied everything up nicely and the last line was exactly what I was thinking after the reveal. With short chapters and an interesting plot, this book was a quick and easy read/listen.

Oh what a twisted love triangle. Finn is in love with Layla, but one night she disappears and is presumed dead. Ten years later he is engaged to Ellen, her sister. Yet he is receiving messages of various design that Layla is alive and wants him back. And then it gets more twisted and bizarre as this mystery unfolds. The author is English so it takes a bit to get into his style, but boy do you get invested very quickly. This is a story of love, loss, betrayal, intrique and basic “goose bump” feelings. Is she alive or isn’t she? I am one reader who always figures out the plot twist of movies but this one kept me guessing until the last 50 pages when I got “it”. Just read it already!

This book was quite different. I couldn't put it down at times, while some of the story started to get repetitive and drag. The plot twists were definitely there with a surprising, yet a bit unbelievable, ending. I am a big fan of her books, but not my favorite of hers.

Not her best book. Fun to resf, but an improbable plot. Protagonist not very likeable.

This is my third book by B.A. Paris and let me just say, I am not disappointed. It has a great start, with an interesting middle and an "OMG! I didn’t see that coming" ending. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book by an author with a knack for story telling.

Holy hell this was one wild ride! Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing, and I guarantee you won't ever feel totally secure until the end, and maybe not even after that! This was really well done and I look forward to more from this author.

A few pages into the book I was 98% sure how the story would play out, and unfortunately I was correct....... I only paid close to $1.00 to read, Behind Closed Doors, which I could not put down until I finished the final page as it was so riveting! Although this newest book is a great read, it is only my meager personal opinion that BCD is the authors best book yet. Thank you for sharing your works with us!!
