The impossible true story about the powerful impact of prayer that inspired the major motion picture starring Chrissy Metz, Topher Grace, Dennis Haysbert, and Josh Lucas.

Through the years and the struggles, when life seemed more about hurt and loss than hope and mercy, God was positioning the Smiths for something extraordinary—the death and resurrection of their son.

When Joyce Smith's fourteen-year-old son John fell through an icy Missouri lake one winter morning, she and her family had seemingly lost everything. At the hospital, John lay lifeless for more than sixty minutes. But Joyce was not ready to give up on her son. She mustered all her faith and strength into one force and cried out to God in a loud voice to save him.

Miraculously, her son's heart immediately started beating again.

In the coming days, John would defy every expert, every case history, and every scientific prediction. Sixteen days after falling through the ice and being clinically dead for an hour, he walked out of the hospital under his own power, completely healed.

Breakthrough is about a profound truth: prayer really does work. God uses it to remind us that He is always with us, and when we combine it with unshakable faith, nothing is impossible.

ohn Smith, 14 years old, fell through an icy Missouri lake on a winter morning. . .For more than 60 minutes he laid lifeless. However, his mom, Joyce, was not ready to give up on him. She prayed and cried out to God to save him. . .and he did. Miraculously his heart started beating again. However, that was just the beginning of John's recovery in Breakthrough. He still had a healing process to go through. Thanks to social media, millions of people prayed for John's complete healing, along with his family. God did answer those prayer and in the end he astounded the medical community with his recovery. Breakthrough is written from the point-of-view of John's mom. I can't imagine watching my son go through this. It truly is encouraging to read her words. Near the end, she had to convince the medical people that true healing had taken place and had to advocate for John. I could see real strength in her coming through. I would think Breakthrough would be especially encouraging to other people with loved ones facing medical challenges. It is also an interesting memoir book that invites people to have more faith in God in general. Breakthrough is also a major motion picture although I have not seen the movie to know how the book compares. However, there are pictures in the middle of the book both from the movie and from the real life family, which I thought were neat to see. I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. #SponsoredbyFaithwords

On January 19, 2015, 14-year-old John Smith of St. Charles, Missouri, slipped through an icy lake and was submerged under water for fifteen minutes. For fifty-five minutes, John had no pulse, but miraculously, he survived. John’s amazing story is told by his mother Joyce Smith in her book Breakthrough: The Miraculous True Story of a Mother’s Faith and Her Son’s Resurrection. Breakthrough is an incredible book. Not only do we learn about John’s recovery, but we see Joyce’s life journey, which includes adopting John from Guatemala. I liked seeing the Smiths’ friendship with fellow Christians, as well as John’s progress at the hospital. It was great to see John get back to his regular life. Breakthrough is a good story about a family with Christian faith. I am so excited about seeing the movie adaptation of this wonderful book! John’s story is truly a miracle. I received this book for review.

I just finished a book that I need to share with all who believe. This is probably the most powerful book I have ever read and I do a lot of reading. I don’t think I have ever been moved more by another book. This is a true story of tragedy, love, and faith with the most unbelievable ending and needs to be shared as well as the most powerful and uplifting story that I have ever come across. The book was just published in 2018 and is now a major motion picture coming out in April of 2019. The name of the book is Breakthrough by Joyce Smith with Ginger Kolbaba. If you like to read and even if you don’t much get the chance, this book is a must.
