I've been looking for a cupcake cookbook for a while now and finally decided to pick this one up. Most of the recipes of deceptively simple alterations to store bought cake mixes accompanied by equally simple decorating ideas. But the end of the book also includes basic cake and icing recipes that could be used instead of cake mixes. I am looking forward to trying the red velvet cupcake recipe and the peanut butter cupcake recipe especially. I can recommend this book to anyone who is uncertain of their baking skills.

I was very disappointed with this book. While it has some cute ideas and a small section of scratch recipes..it is primarily cake mix "spruce-up" (and suggestions for which ready-to-spread frosting to use!!)recipes. Which is fine, but not what I expected based on the description.
