This cook book is designed for someone who is just starting to cook gluten free or doesn't have time to cook from scratch. I personally hate packaged foods! If I wanted to used boxed food I won't have bought a cookbook. I have a betty crocker that is from the 1960s and I bought a book that tell how to make create your our gluten free flours. I took this book back it's not for me.

FINALLY - a gluten free book that has some wonderful easy and quick recipes using the newer gluten free mixes on the market. I have been an avid baker/cooker for many years now an and own too many cookbooks to count! When we needed to go gluten free a few years ago because of our young daughter's stomach issues, many of my cookbooks weren't usable any longer. I have cooked from serious books like Julia Child's and own all of Barefoot Contessa's books. I also have purchased several gluten free "from scratch" books. We eat healthy and naturally whenever possible. However, in today's world it's nice to be able to still "cook from a mix" on occasion. So for the other reviewers that are disappointed that this uses many mixes, that isn't the point. There are actually many healthier recipes in this book as well, and it's nice to see the nutrition labeling in the recipes, which many cookbooks (gluten free or not) do not contain. It's so nice to be able to sometimes bake a treat for my daughter quickly, instead of taking hours that some of my gluten free recipes take me to do. I highly recommend this cookbook ! Oh, and have looked on the Betty Crocker website and is definitely not a substitute for this book.

Pros: easy; delicious; nutrition info; prep time and 'start to finish' listed; # servings; pictures for everything; tips & tricks; basic GF info at the front (but not too much!); GF versions of traditional American foods; ingredients are generally easy to find Cons: less general GF info than other books (which is not a problem unless you're brand new to the diet); not super nutritious (but not terrible, either); when it calls for convenience foods it lists specific brands, so if you want to substitute another brand you need to compare amounts yourself (e.g. calls for Betty Crocker cookie mix, and when I used a different brand the volumes were off)  I'm not sure why other people are not thrilled with this book!  I've only had it for a few weeks, and it is quickly becoming my favorite one!  I actually love that many of the recipes call for boxed mixes and GF Bisquick.  There is a good mix of those 'convenience food' recipes and more traditional GF recipes (sorghum, rice, and almond flours, etc), One of my absolute favorite things is that this book doesn't do what some GF cookbooks do -- fill the pages with grain-free recipes that you can find in any standard cookbook.  These really are GF versions of classic recipes that traditionally call for flour.  About half the book is baking, which is FANTASTIC! Seriously, if you're eating gluten free (especially if you're new to it) and miss eating 'normal' foods (especially those yummy comfort foods!), BUY THIS BOOK!
