I purchased this book because I grow raspberries and blackberries on our property. I loved it so much that I purchased four more as gifts for family members and friends. Not only does it go into deep detail about the health benefits of each berry (not just the "normal" ones, but exotic berries like goji berries and acai), it gives the nutritional rundown, the history of them, growing info and lots and lots of really yummy recipes. I've made the various fruit leathers (one had almond butter!!!), the homemade berry gelatin, the fruit soup, and several of the condiments. Such a terrific book for a gardner or any one into health. Plus, Stephanie Pedersen just comes off as such a warm, funny person. You'll enjoy this book.

Berries: The Complete Guide to Cooking with Power-Packed Berries by Stephanie Pedersen is a fun book to read about berries of all kinds. I loved her Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) at the end of her book. The author's FAQ is in a Q & A format where you can quickly learn about berries. Some of the questions include what makes a berry; who grows the most strawberries; or how to prevent birds from eating your home-grown berries. I love it when my favorite foods are good for me. I learned that berries were an important superfood and was excited ways to enjoy them beyond just eating them out of the container. "Berries" is an awesome book because not only does it introduce me to so many different berries (common ones like strawberries and cranberries, and uncommon ones like elderberries, gooseberries and goji berries), it tells me why each berry is good for me. It gives nutritional stats on each berry and tells me about how different cultures use it for healing and provides clinical studies on each berry. To make it easier to use berries in my meals, there are some amazing recipes. I loved the goji berry chicken soup, the fruit leather with berries and almond butter, and the elderberry cough syrup.
