Bein' With You is a wonderful Multicultural story that teaches kids to appreciate themselves just the way they are. The author talks about the different types of hair every race has and the different shapes of noses. Also, the author describes the different body types. The book is good to read to every child because in our society people are constantly comparing their selves to other people and kids are struggling with their image.A fun activity to do with this story will be to read aloud to kids and discuss the different races and their culture differences. In addition, teachers can have kids create a play out of this story because the words rhyme and are easy to remember.
Personal Response:This book reminds me of my children when they were little and enjoyed playing at the park. Skin color didn't matter. They just enjoyed being with other kids.Curricular Connections:Lessons on how to treat others.Poetry
