Beautiful Secret is set mostly in the lush French Ardennes and Southern Italy. It is the story of thirty-three year old Tate Robbins, a woman who has lost almost everything that is important to her in life. When Tate decides to travel from her hometown in the North of Pittsburgh to Europe, she expects an escape from the life that is falling apart around her. Having lost both parents, Tate jumps at the opportunity when her dying Nana urges her to journey across the sea. Nana provides Tate with the vague directive to go and visit Luisa, Nana's sister-in-law and best friend, that Luisa has something for her. It is Nana's dying wish, so Tate hops a plane, leaving behind a failing marriage and not much else. She finds what she never knew she needed in her long-lost European family and a forbidden love affair. Alongside Tate's narrative, Nana Maria's story is told from her point of view and timeframe. Maria's story is woven in between Tate's. The tale takes place in 1940's Calabria, where she was born and lived for the first twenty years of her life. In her own voice, Maria spins the saga of growing up in the poor rural town of Tronca in the mountains, being seduced by her cousin's older fiancé, Giuseppe, and becoming pregnant with his love child.Europe enraptures Tate almost immediately. Not only does the rich culture make her feel more alive than she's felt in ages, but she finds herself completely taken with her French and Italian family. When she becomes undeniably attracted to her distant cousin by marriage, Michel, a man with a tragic past like hers, Tate's emotions begin to unravel from the knot they've been tied in far too long. Torn between a magnetic pull toward the sexy Michel and a commitment to the philandering man who is technically still her husband, Tate looks forward to leaving France to travel to Italy. Before Tate leaves France, Luisa gives her an envelope and an address with directions to find the location and give the envelope to the man who lives there. Tate agrees, and she is off to experience Italy and discover her Nana's secrets, find a new love, and a host of distant relatives she never knew about.

About the Author

Pittsburgh native Dana Faletti loves Broadway musicals and knows all the words to Les Miserables - the entire show. One of her favorite TV series is Sons of Anarchy, and her favorite movie is the Sound of Music. Don't try to start a conversation with her in the morning until she's had at least one cup of coffee - preferably Starbucks, but do come over for a glass of wine (red) and some good conversation at dinner time. Dana loves to cook and owned a successful catering business for a few years, before giving it up to focus on her family and write full-time. She shares her life with a Gemini husband who also knows every word to Les Mis, and three amazing daughters - an eleven-year-old theatre buff, a nine-year-old future mega-entrepreneur, and a curly-haired six-year-old who is the true CEO of the household.
Dana has been writing for what seems like forever. Her young adult trilogy, The Whisper Series, is a paranormal romance that's rife with angels, demons and forbidden romance, as well as a message of love and acceptance that has touched readers nationwide. Her newest novel, Beautiful Secret, will be released by Pandamoon Publishing in 2016. Beauiful Secret is a women's fiction romance set in the scorched hills of Southern Italy, where Dana has spent much time traveling and visiting relatives. Dana has a love affair with all things Italian and is proud to be part of the loud, crazy, and wonderful Italian family that inspired her new book.

Reviewed by Trudi LoPreto for Readers' Favorite Tate is struggling with the fact that her parents are dead, her Nana is dying, her husband is cheating on her, and she is keeping all of the pain deep within. With her last breath, Nana Maria asks Tate to go to Europe and meet her European family. Over the years, Nana Maria has shared stories of her youth with Tate, but has not told her all of the details. As the story progresses, we read Maria’s story in her own words as she tells us of her life in France. Tate immediately makes plans to travel to Europe and meet her family. Tate is welcomed with open arms and is quickly made to feel right at home. She finds happiness, peace, love, and willingly and happily opens her heart and her thoughts to her wonderful new family. There are secrets to learn, adventures to have, lots of parties and food to eat, and Tate would like to stay forever, but sadly she must go back home to Pittsburgh. Beautiful Secret is a love story of the present beautifully intertwined in the past. I really loved being a part of Tate and Nana Maria’s story and was drawn further and further in as I read. Beautiful Secret will make you smile and make you cry and it will keep you reading long into the night. The ending has a totally unexpected twist and is one I did not see coming. Dana Faletti is a gifted romance storyteller, creating believable, lovable characters and a plot that has no flaws. I highly urge you to read Beautiful Secret; it is more than just a five star winner.

This novel was the story of a wonderful trip to Europe to discover her past and her roots and to find her own way. Her grandmother Maria on her deathbed makes promise to Tatiana to go to France to know her aunt Luisa and then travel to Calabria, she will find out a very important part of her Nana's life who has always hidden. Tatiana has just put an end to her marriage and perhaps this trip is a good time to start a new life. By better understanding her grandmother has the opportunity to know herself better. The characters were adorable, I really loved the women protagonists of this story. Maria is a strong and courageous woman, willing to do anything for her son. This novel is written very well, so fluid and flowing and never boring. The descriptions of places are really lovely, it seems to be there along with Tatiana and visit these wonderful places. Highly recommended

This is a remarkable story of Tate’s journey to meet her family in Europe at the request of her dying Grandmother. Her Grandmother, Maria, has told Tate some of her life story, but she wants Tate to embark on a quest to learn more from her other family members. The twists along the way will make you keep reading; I couldn’t put it down, always eager to see what happened next. The Author has an impeccable talent of making you feel as though you are part of this journey with Tate. It was a fantastic book and this was my first time reading work by this Author. I highly recommend this book. I am really looking forward to reading more of her novels.

We all carry a secret, whether nor or will in the future, that we hold inside and cannot bare to let it out until we move on from this world. For Tate, her journey truly begins when her grandmother requests as her dying wish that Tate travel to France and Italy and meet her estranged family. It is on this journey that Tate learns the life her grandmother lived, and starts to truly live her own life. What Tate learns about her grandmother is heartbreaking yet shows the true strength of what her grandmother bore in order to let someone she truly cared for get everything they could from life. We all make choices in life, and sometimes we need to stray from our paths in order to make a choice to be truly happy, even if for a limited time. This is a moving tale and is bittersweet on many accounts, where the tale ends much as how it began for this family many years ago.

“Beautiful Secret” is my first time reading Dana Faletti but absolutely will not be the last! The story begins with Tate rushing to the hospital to see her beloved Nana Maria, afraid each day that Maria will die before she gets there. Maria has been telling her stories of her life but makes a request that after she has passed, Tate travel to Europe meet her family. Tate’s travels are magical, surprising, and emotional all in one, but so exciting! I really loved Tate and very early on absolutely despised her mean husband. I loved that she took off on this journey alone, as Nana Maria wished. The author’s descriptions of dinners with the family are so incredibly vivid I could taste the food and visual the cigarette smoke hanging in the air. Similarly, with Tate and Michel, there were moments that as the reader I could feel the chemistry and connection between them. I find myself at a loss of words with this review, which is strange for me, lol! I really loved this novel from beginning to end with Faletti’s beautiful writing, in several languages, the complex characterization that went into this novel. Sometimes I am unsure about switching back and forth between time periods, but it worked perfectly in this novel as Tate told her story and then Nana told hers. This novel is a reminder that any family can have secrets whether good, bad or both, but how we deal with them is what’s important. I highly recommend this book to lover’s of women’s fiction and romance mixed with some surprising twists! *Thanks to Beck Valley Books for providing a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, and following the life of Nana Maria when she was younger and healthy, and the life of Tate in the present day. Not only is their life connected because Nana Maria is Tate’s grandmother, but it’s also connected by love and a secret so powerful, unexpected yet extremely heartfelt. Ms. Faletti took me to France and Italy with Tate and she told a story so vivid that it was like I was truly there.

Tatiana (Tate) Domani is having a hard time. She is having troubles in her marriage, her most beloved person (her Nana Maria) is severely ill and nothing seems to make sense. Her Nana's last wish is for Tate to go to Calabria, Italy, to visit with her family and try to heal. This book is a nostalgic romance in which the story folds in flashbacks of Nana Maria's previous life and Tate's present. Their life is connected by love, family, beautiful locations and a secret that is so unexpected and yet so heartfelt. This book is as the name says, a beautiful love story that unfolds in your reading eyes.

I truly love this book! Ms. Faletti can transport the reader to anywhere in space and time that she wishes, through the richness of her descriptions and her storytelling. Tatiana is living an empty life after the death of her parents and grandmother. Her marriage is in shambles and her life revolves around the stories her grandmother told her. She made a promise on her grandmother's deathbed to travel to France and Italy to meet the extended family she never knew...and to learn her grandmother's secrets. Tatiana sets off on a mission for answers about her grandmother's life and instead begins to find answers about her own. This book is wonderfully set in two different times, so we get to explore Maria's life in the 1940s and Tatiana's now. Will they find the answers that they're looking for?

This is the story of families-the good, the bad and the secrets that are held deep within them. Tatiana has lost both her parents, her marriage is a shambles and now her grandmother is dying. Tate as all call her has been told many stories of her grandmothers life before she came to America--but not all of it. On her death bed Tate's grandmother makes her promise to go visit her family in France and Italy. She hands her a package to deliver to a certain address--but will say no more. She assures Tate that her Aunt will be able to tell her more of the story. She goes as her grandmother asked and is immediately enveloped by a loving family. Her aunt is able to tell her more but not all. She is still on a quest to find out about what went on back then. She is taken to disco's and the sea by her cousins and learns slowly to have fun. Of course there are lots of celebrations with lots of food! But things have a way of happening-whether or not we want them to. Yes Tate finds out her grandmother's secret--and in the process ends up with a secret of her own. But they both had their memories and a gift that would last a lifetime. The one word that comes to mind about this novel is Bittersweet. I really think you all should read this--some but not all of it is tissue box worthy.
