About the Author

James Bruchac is a an award winning author, storyteller, tracker, survival expert, cultural educator, martial arts instructor, mma ring announcer and filmmaker.

Raised in the Adirondack foothills town of Greenfield Center, New York Jim is the eldest son of World renowned Abenaki Indian storyteller and author Joseph Bruchac Of Abenak, English and Slovak descent Jim grew up immersed in the outdoors and the art of storytelling.

As a storyteller, Jim has offered programs for countless schools and colleges across the country as well as for numerous, libraries, museums and storytelling festivals including the Smithsonian Discovery Theater in Washington DC, John F. Kennedy Library and Museum, Boston MA and The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake NY. Jim's Storyteller and voice acting skills have also been featured on the PBS show Adirondack Storytellers and the upcoming documentary Adirondack Deer Camp.

Having done both tracking and wilderness survival based research in all corners of The United States and Lower Canada, Jim has a natural passion for sharing his knowledge of the natural world with others. From his teaching of how Native peoples used the natural world to survive to how you could survive in the woods today, Jim's tracking & wilderness programs, have allowed him to work with numerous schools, government officials, military personnel and wildlife organizations. Due to their combined efforts to educate others about the natural world in March of 2005 Jim and his father were awarded a Conservation Achievement Award from The National Wildlife Federation.

Jim's wilderness prowess has also been featured on such television shows as Wild T.V on PBS, RAY MEARS ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE, Travel Channel and the Versus, 25 HARDEST ANIMALS TO HUNT. A recent finalist to host a new survival based show for Animal Planet, over the past three years Jim has been in continued contention for several other Discovery Networks programs. During that time Jim has also appeared as a survival consultant for numerous local and National news stations including the FOX & FRIENDS MORNING SHOW as well as the GRETA VAN SUSTERN SHOW. Having been a finalist for several Discovery network shows Jim is presently a top contender for two pending shows one from Animal Planet and another from BBC World Wide.

Jim has both authored and co-authored books for kids and adults alike. Childrens' books include How Chipmunk Got His Stripes, Turtle's Race with Beaver, and Racoon's Last Race, all by Dial books, Be Good: A True Cautionary Tale, Bowman Books, When The Chenoo Howls from Walker books and Native American Games and Stories by Fulcrum Publishing. Upcoming childrens' books include Rabbit's Snow Dance, Dial Books, A Trackers Trail , Bowman Books, and Jim Bruchac's Animal Tracking Adventure Guide by Fulcrum Publishing. When not on the road Jim is often running outdoor and or cultural programming The Ndakinna Education Center, a family founded non-profit facility. In his free time Jim enjoys spending time with his family, playing in the woods, and continuing his 30+ years of martial arts training, competition and instruction. As the head of Saratoga Kyokushin & Alliance BJJ Jim holds a 5th degree black belt and title of Shihan in Kyokushin Karate under Master Kaicho Farzinzad. Along with his Karate and kickbox programs Jim also teaches Brazilian Jui-jitsu receiving his purple belt and instructor certification from Master Romero "Jacare" Cavalcanti, founder of 7X World Champions Alliance Jiu-Jitsu.
